Can India Keep Buying Russian Oil? Trump's Pause Explained | The Buffer Zone #12

The United States has eased some of the pressure on India over its purchases of Russian oil. But does that mean India is free to continue buying Russian crude? And why has Washington suddenly changed its approach? In this episode of The Buffer Zone, we break down the latest developments in US-India relations, Donald Trump's decision to waive certain Russia-related measures, and what the move could mean for India's energy security and foreign policy. We look at the bigger geopolitical picture, including: The Russian oil question: Why India continued buying discounted Russian crude after the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Trump's sanctions pause: What the Lindsey Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act means, what was waived, and why a pause does not automatically mean permission. Why Washington eased the pressure: Energy prices, US domestic politics, the upcoming midterm elections and the wider diplomatic picture. India-US trade negotiations: Where the proposed trade deal stands and why agriculture remains an important issue for India. Marco Rubio's India visit: The significance of his meetings in Mumbai and his visit to Reliance's Jamnagar refinery. What happens next: Will India shift towards more American and Venezuelan crude, or will Russian oil remain an important part of its energy mix? We also discuss the controversy surrounding Rubio's Mumbai visit and examine whether Washington's approach to Russian energy is as straightforward as it appears. The big question: Is this a temporary easing of pressure, a diplomatic calculation, or a sign of a larger shift in America's approach towards India? At The Buffer Zone, we don't tell you what to think. We try to make sense of a world that's getting more complicated by the day. 💬 Join the conversation: If you were negotiating on behalf of India, would you sign the US trade deal now or wait to see how Washington handles the Russian oil issue? Tell us in the comments. 🎙️ Hosted by Shahbaz and Shivam. The Buffer Zone | Geopolitics, explained beyond the headlines. #India #RussianOil #USIndiaRelations #DonaldTrump #Geopolitics

BRICS Summit 2026: What Actually Changed? | The Buffer Zone #11

BRICS Summit 2026: Bigger, But Is It Actually More Powerful? India hosted the BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12–13, 2026. Two weeks later, we take a step back from the headlines and ask a bigger question: Has BRICS actually become more powerful — or has it simply become bigger? In this episode of The Buffer Zone, we look beyond the summit headlines and break down what BRICS is actually trying to achieve, what came out of the New Delhi Summit, and what happens after the leaders go home. We discuss: • What BRICS actually is — and what it isn't• The expansion of BRICS and its growing economic and political weight• India-China relations and the contradiction at the heart of BRICS• China's growing influence inside the group• BRICS and the push for de-dollarisation• Whether BRICS can build alternatives to existing global financial systems• Cross-border payments and the mBridge project• The New Development Bank (NDB) and BRICS institutions• The biggest challenges facing BRICS• What India actually wants from BRICS• Whether BRICS can give its members greater strategic autonomy BRICS doesn't necessarily have to replace the West or the US-led international system to matter. The more interesting question may be whether it can give its members more options, more bargaining power, and greater freedom to make their own choices. The summit is over. Now comes the difficult part: implementation. This is The Buffer Zone — a geopolitics podcast where we try to understand the world without pretending we have all the answers. 🎙️ Hosted by Shahbaz & Shivam #BRICS #BRICSSummit2026 #India #Geopolitics #China #IndiaChina #DeDollarisation #GlobalSouth #InternationalRelations #TheBufferZone
