    The Duggars Did What The Siders Did — In Public

    For anyone who has followed this family since Nineteen Kids and Counting, the hardest part of this episode is how familiar the Siders case looks. A different family, a different state, no cameras — and the same machine running underneath. Joseph Duggar has pleaded not guilty to two felonies in Florida involving a child under twelve, tied to a 2020 family trip to Panama City Beach. He posted a six hundred thousand dollar bond. He and Kendra Duggar have also pleaded not guilty to four counts each of endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts each of false imprisonment in Tontitown, and the state removed all four of their children. Tony Brueski holds all of it up against the Siders family in Vinton County, Ohio — sixteen children, sixteen felony counts per defendant, a mother who was fifteen and seven months pregnant on her wedding day, and an eighteen-year-old who cannot spell her own name. All four Siders have pleaded not guilty. The machinery will look familiar. Homeschooling with no outside eyes. Problems handled inside the house. The 2003 stern talk with a family friend in a state trooper's uniform — a mandated reporter who filed nothing and is now serving fifty-six years on charges of his own, more than four times what Josh Duggar received. Then the difference that only one of these families can afford. One grandfather walked out of an Ohio jail because the county could not cover his hospital bills.     Every Duggar follower has seen the Josh Duggar file. Almost nobody has gone back to what Joseph said about it. He was twenty. It was December of 2015. TLC was still filming, the family was still trying to survive the scandal, and Joseph Duggar sat down and said the quiet part on camera. Josh had been living a secret life. When somebody you respect stands up and preaches about being true to your wife, you would never think that is the person involved in it. It broke his heart. Five years later, according to an arrest affidavit filed in Bay County, Florida, Joseph Duggar was on a family vacation in Panama City Beach and asked a nine-year-old girl to sit on his lap. He has pleaded not guilty and demanded a jury trial. Tony Brueski goes straight at the argument tearing the Duggar fandom in half: is Joseph worse than Josh, or is Josh worse than Joseph. He answers it. Then he explains why the answer changes nothing. Because the through line is not a brother.     He did. And the judge said no. Joseph Duggar’s attorney filed a motion in Bay County, Florida arguing that the family at the center of the case had “abandoned” their residence and Joseph should be allowed to return to property near where they once lived. Court filings show Joseph owns six parcels within five hundred feet of the home. His attorney listed maintenance tasks — mowing, painting, flooring, demolishing a shed. The judge denied the motion and told him to send employees. Tony Brueski breaks down what the filing reveals about the proximity Joseph allegedly had to the family after the 2020 Panama City Beach vacation where the alleged incidents took place. Both families returned to the same corner of northwest Arkansas. For six years, the girl lived within five hundred feet of property Joseph controlled. When her father confronted Joseph in March 2026, he allegedly admitted to what happened. He was arrested the next day. The family left their home shortly after. The hearing also revealed that Joseph was denied unsupervised contact with his own four children. After his arrest, investigators found exterior locks on bedroom doors inside the Duggar home — the same configuration that existed in Jim Bob and Michelle’s house a generation earlier, installed after Josh confessed to harming his sisters. The state removed all four children. Joseph and Kendra each face eight additional charges in Arkansas. Jim Bob’s jailhouse email compared Joseph to King David and told him to “make lemonade out of lemons.” Pretrial hearing July 14. Trial in August.
