Ida Sophia - Performance Artist, Sculptor, Educator

Ida Sophia is an artist currently based between Adelaide and Berlin. Working in sculpture, durational performance, and video, her practice is rooted in autobiographical entry points. Using conceptual materials, ritual and time, she explores themes of regret, longing, forgiveness and the complexity of connection. Ida Sophia’s works employ beauty and sensory elements as a kind of lure, inducing audiences to linger in discomfort, reflection, or revelation in order to elicit physiological and emotional responses. Though secular in intent, her aesthetic draws from religious material culture, creating works that feel both sacred and subversive. Interested in how interpersonal dynamics and unspoken experiences are carried by the body and played out in society, Ida Sophia interrogates how art can become a site for acknowledging and transforming conditioned experience. Completing her BVA at Adelaide Central School of Art in 2022, Ida Sophia went on to win the prestigious Ramsay Art Prize in 2023 for her video work Witness (2022). Ida has exhibited both locally and internationally, notably: SAMSTAG museum of art, Dark MOFO MONA Museum, Bardo Projekt Raum, Scope BLN, The Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide Contemporary Experimental (ACE) and Performance Space Carriageworks. Amanda Westley - Indigenous Artist

Amanda Westley is a Ngarrindjeri woman and artist, born in Victor Harbor, South Australia in 1985. Her totems are the whale, pelican and black swan. Growing up she experienced the best of both worlds living the farm life 12kms out of the coastal country town of Victor Harbor. Her father was a boat builder so the water and the ocean have always been a big part of her life. Amanda’s painting style is dot work and the bright colours from my coastal country hometown and the ocean are represented through her paintings. She has been painting from a very young age and her style is contemporary Aboriginal dot art, having always enjoyed painting and the calm that it brought. Her paintings represent country; for Aboriginal people land has a spiritual and cultural connection and is so important to identity and way of life. With her painting she has used a combination of pinks, yellows, blues, greens and oranges to represent how she sees her Ngarrindjeri country. Amanda’s family is one of the oldest Aboriginal families on the south coast; the land she calls home has been a part of her family for a very long time, and by creating these paintings she acknowledges the important connection her family has with this land.
