    Off the First Tee: The Evolution of the Solheim Cup

    The Solheim Cup has grown into one of the prime vents in the sporting calendar. A tournament comprised of emotion, unforgettable moments and controversy (in part). It's certainly helped transform the landscape of the women’s game. In this episode, we take a journey through the history of the Solheim Cup, from its beginnings in 1990 to the global sporting spectacle it has become today. Along the way, we’re joined by one of the competition’s most important figures, Alison Nicholas. Alison has experienced the Solheim Cup from almost every possible angle. She played in the inaugural event at Lake Nona in 1990, was part of the European team that secured its first victory just two years later, represented Europe in six consecutive Solheim Cups, and later captained the side — famously leading Europe to victory at Killeen Castle in Ireland in 2011.     The Crazy English Cricket Summer of 1988

    If you think modern English cricket can be chaotic, cast your mind back to the summer of 1988. England were confronted by perhaps the most formidable team in world cricket: Viv Richards' West Indies. What followed was a summer of battered batsmen, terrifying fast bowling, captaincy turmoil and one of the most extraordinary Test series in English cricket history. The West Indies arrived with Malcolm Marshall, Curtly Ambrose, Courtney Walsh and Patrick Patterson — and England discovered very quickly that survival was going to be difficult. In this episode, Mark and Marcus explore the notorious "summer of the four captains" — or five, depending on how you count the men who led England during the wider season. Back in 1987, England cricket captain Mike Gatting and somewhat controversial umpire Shakoor Rana came to blows in one of cricket's most fiery encounters. In this episode, we revisit the explosive confrontation between the two during England's 1987 tour of Pakistan—a dispute that brought play to a halt, dominated headlines around the world, and became one of cricket's defining flashpoints. Mark and Marcus are also joined by special guest and photographer on that day who witnessed it all, Graham Morris. Graham shares his firsthand memories of the incident, what it was like behind the lens as well as letting us into another extraordinary experience...away from sport.
