Knowing Scripture Was Never the Goal. Living It Is.

Truth you don't obey slowly becomes truth you don't even notice anymore. In this Week 2 teaching from Graceful Church of God, Dr. Nick Circolone goes from why we study the Bible to what we do with it. Starting with James 1:22–24, he explains why God's Word was never meant only to grow our knowledge. It was given to change the way we live every day. He covers why we can trust the Bible we read, from the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls to Israel becoming a nation in 1948. He talks about why the Holy Spirit is not the forgotten member of the Trinity, but the One who puts the power to obey inside you. And he gives a simple way to apply any passage: find the command to follow, the promise to trust, the example to copy, and the sin to drop. Keep it small enough to do before your head hits the pillow. Along the way: eggs left in the back seat on a 100-degree day, the January gym crowd, an Italian family's plastic-covered "special room," and an honest admission about handing things to God and taking them right back. It closes with a challenge: find the room in your life you've kept closed to Jesus, and rip the door off the hinges. 📖 KEY PASSAGES James 1:22–24 — Be doers of the word, and not hearers only 2 Timothy 3:16–17 — All Scripture is breathed out by God 🎵 MUSIC "Don't Walk Away From The Mirror" by Dr Nick Circolone, inspired by James 1:23–24 https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=YE5ODN_4ARU ⏱️ CHAPTERS 00:00 Opening song: Be Doers of the Word 00:15 James 1:22–24 and the big idea 00:58 Why do we study the Bible? 01:56 The Dead Sea Scrolls discovery 03:18 1948: Israel becomes a nation 03:49 The Holy Spirit: the overlooked person of the Trinity 05:25 The eggs in the back seat 06:42 Why application is essential 07:22 Quoting Scripture with a bad attitude 08:37 "I'm sorry, please forgive me" 11:04 How to apply biblical truth wisely 12:18 The January gym crowd: why big chunks fail 13:12 Small steps at home: dishes, beds, and sacrifice 16:32 When the Holy Spirit says "now" 17:07 Obedience changes things 17:47 Reading the Bible together as a family 18:19 Breaking generational curses 18:56 Every act of obedience is a rep 19:10 No part of your life is off-limits 19:47 The plastic-covered room 21:10 Rip the door off the hinges 22:18 How the Holy Spirit makes obedience possible 24:07 Giving it to God… then taking it back 24:57 Like the disciples in the boat 27:03 All Scripture is God-breathed 27:54 Why we make the Bible complicated 28:49 When the Holy Spirit washes it away 29:53 Whatever's in the closed room has to go 🔔 Follow for the rest of the series. 🌐 drnick.co #BeDoersOfTheWord #BibleStudy #WhoIAmBecoming

How to Study the Bible: Start With Why | Who I Am Becoming

The big question isn't how to study the Bible. It's why. In this Week 1 teaching from Graceful Church of God, Dr. Nick Circolone walks through what happens when you open Scripture expecting God to speak, instead of reading just to gather information. He covers where to start if you've never read it through, why "I can't" keeps people stuck, and what to do about a wandering mind. He also shows how to build a habit that survives a vacation, and why the Bible is the only book that keeps working after you close it. Plain-spoken, practical, and honest about the parts nobody admits, including the fact that no one in the room, pastor and teacher included, knows the whole Bible. We're all still learning. 📖 KEY PASSAGES 2 Timothy 2:15 — Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved Matthew 4:4 — Man shall not live by bread alone Psalm 119:18 — Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things Nehemiah 8:8 — They read from the book... and gave the sense ⏱️ CHAPTERS 00:00 Surrender to what the Spirit is telling you 00:44 The most important question in Bible study 01:00 Not a textbook to master — a lamp to walk by 01:46 Don't start in Leviticus. Start with Jesus 02:41 Every word is God-breathed 03:35 Why we study: the soul hungers and nothing else feeds it 04:21 A prayer to pray before you open the Book 04:44 Read to be changed, not just informed 05:48 The memory verse: 2 Timothy 2:15 06:24 Bite-sized pieces that start getting wider 07:38 The same experience the writers had 08:31 Expect opposition when you get into the Word 09:32 You can't depend on a God you don't know 10:42 Bible apps, versions, and what to carry 11:01 Osmosis doesn't work (the anatomy book story) 12:02 Using AI to study: trust, but verify 12:42 Why you still need a printed Bible 13:28 The only book that talks back 14:13 Squirrels, ADD, and how the Spirit brings it back 15:32 Context: no verse lives alone 16:56 Three tools you need to study well 17:32 Making the Bible conform to us 18:47 When preaching becomes opinion instead of truth 19:27 Application: from your head to your Monday 20:54 "They're all hypocrites" — hurt by the church 21:48 Building a habit: 15 honest minutes 23:12 No excuses (you'd run back into a burning building for your phone) 23:35 The more I learn about God, the more I learn about me 24:52 Every Bible study looks different — we're the body 25:45 Step 1: Pray first — Psalm 119:18 26:49 Step 2: Observe, interpret, apply 27:08 What I ask every patient, and every passage 29:04 Nobody knows the whole Bible — and that's the point 🔔 Follow for the rest of the series. 🌐 drnick.co #HowToStudyTheBible #BibleStudy #WhoIAmBecoming

ABDUCTED: The Church That Didn't Know It Was Taken

I have a confession: I'm an abductee. I've been taken more times than I can count — not by little green men, but by my phone, my TV, my computer, and a video game called Max Payne that once stole entire days of my life. There's a whole generation of believers being carried off the same way. Not by force. By distraction. And most of them don't even know it's happening. Satan rarely destroys a Christian overnight. He distracts them to death. He doesn't need you to deny Christ — he just needs your attention. Five minutes here, five minutes there, and he's got you. In this message we look at what "abduction" really means, why the head of the home sets the pattern, what Martha got wrong while Jesus sat in her house, and why the enemy traded persecution for the far more effective weapon of a scrolling thumb. None of these things — the phones, the shows, the games, the news — are sins by themselves. But they've become the new idols. The question isn't whether you know this. It's what you're going to do about it. 📖 Scripture: Joshua 24:15 · 1 Kings 19:11–12 · Luke 10:41–42 · 1 Timothy 6:10 ⏱️ CHAPTERS 00:00 "I'm an Abductee" — My Confession 01:43 What "Abduction" Really Means 02:31 The Video Game That Stole My Time 06:15 Where the Head Goes, the Home Follows 06:58 iPads at the Dinner Table 07:59 A Story About My Mom 09:34 Satan Distracts You to Death 09:58 The First Thing You Do Every Morning 14:45 The New Idols 16:39 Martha, Mary & the Real Problem 20:14 When You're With Jesus, Be With Jesus 23:16 The Enemy's New Battlefield 25:50 Four Days That Change Your Life 26:36 Don't Be Lied To 28:35 Prioritize: Jesus First Follow the podcast so you never miss an episode — Ancient Word. The 3-Part Routine That Finally Worked at 64 | Stretch, Strength, Walk

I changed three things about my workout routine — stretching, strength training, and walking — and at 64, it finally worked. In this episode, I share the exact routine, what it costs (nothing), and how long it takes (about 50 minutes a day). I'd been working out six days a week and wasn't seeing the gains I wanted. Switching from long, single-focus workouts to a combination of three principles changed everything: I'm losing weight, toning up, sleeping and thinking better, and I'm not fighting the urge to binge eat anymore. You don't need a gym. You don't need to buy anything from me. Every piece of this is something you can start this week. IN THIS EPISODE: Why my old routine stopped working — and what was missing The three-part formula: stretch, strength, cardio The morning stretch that starts everything Why I dropped from 25-minute to 10-minute strength training Walking 12–18 miles a week without leaving the house What actually changed for me — and who this is (and isn't) for THE ROUTINE STRETCH — "Great Stretch" (Tony Horton / Beachbody) A full-body stretch program that's been around since the 90s. Still one of the best overall stretches out there. STRENGTH — 10-Minute Speed Train I dropped from the 25-minute version to the 10-minute. It's intense, it's not for the faint of heart, and paired with the stretch and the walking, it's where I started seeing real change. CARDIO — Walk at Home (Leslie Sansone) Leslie has been making walk-at-home videos since 1980. I do 2–3 miles a day, 12–18 miles a week, indoors. Rain, snow, whatever — no excuses. NOT SPONSORED: I receive nothing from Beachbody or anyone else for mentioning these programs. They're simply what I actually use. Beachbody is a paid program; Leslie has free videos on YouTube to get you started. THE RESEARCH BEHIND THIS APPROACH STRENGTH TRAINING & LONGEVITY — 90 to 119 minutes per week was associated with 13% lower all-cause mortality, 19% lower cardiovascular mortality, and 27% lower neurological disease mortality, across 147,374 adults followed for 30 years. Zhang Y, et al. British Journal of Sports Medicine, 2026. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/42230125/ SHORT WORKOUTS WORK — A review of minimal-dose resistance training strategies, including brief "snack" sessions of just a few minutes. Iversen VM, et al. Sports Medicine, 2024. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11127831/ STRETCHING & YOUR ARTERIES — Controlled trials found stretching reduced arterial stiffness, lowered resting heart rate and diastolic blood pressure, and improved blood vessel function in middle-aged and older adults. Kato M, et al. Int J Environ Res Public Health, 2020. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7460052/ FLEXIBILITY & SURVIVAL — Over ~13 years, less flexible middle-aged adults had higher mortality risk — nearly 2x in men and nearly 5x in women. Araújo CGS, et al. Scand J Med Sci Sports, 2024. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/sms.14708 WALKING — About 7,000 steps a day (roughly 3 miles) was associated with 47% lower all-cause mortality and 38% lower dementia risk versus 2,000 steps. 57 studies, 160,000+ adults. Ding D, et al. The Lancet Public Health, 2025. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanpub/article/PIIS2468-2667(25)00164-1/fulltext A NOTE ON THE EVIDENCE: Most of these are observational studies — they show strong associations, not proof of cause and effect. The stretching research is interventional but small (8 trials, 213 people). I'd rather tell you that up front than oversell it.
