Were You Dropped on Your Kid as a Head? B3.E5

A bad dad joke mutates into a grammatical war crime, somebody commits pour-over malpractice, and somehow Chris Farley, instant coffee trauma, Nicolas Cage, X-Men, and the possibility of being sponsored by British Petroleum all end up sitting at the same table. Welcome back to The Little Brown Pill, where the coffee is taken seriously and absolutely nothing else is. This batch gets dangerously caffeinated as Charles and Josh stumble through: “Were you dropped on your kid as a head?” — a sentence so beautifully wrong it immediately deserves merchandise.A surprisingly heartfelt trip through Chris Farley nostalgia, Tommy Boy, Matt Foley, and the weird sadness of remembering just how damn funny he was.The discovery that Bob Odenkirk wrote “Van Down by the River,” because apparently Saul Goodman has been hiding everywhere.Charles watching his wife skip the bloom on his pour-over and briefly reconsidering 26 years of marriage. Why drinking properly prepared instant coffee might be too dangerous even for Johnny Knoxville.Childhood trauma involving instant-coffee sludge and the important question: Has instant coffee gotten better, or have we just forgotten how awful it is?Starbucks coffee getting purchased solely for the cup…and the actual coffee going directly into the trash.Trying to name Little Brown Pill listeners without accidentally creating the worst hashtag in podcast history.Dream Scenario, The Bear, Anaconda, Saving Silverman, Back to the Future, and enough Gen X/Millennial nostalgia to require a VCR rewinder.X-Men ’97, Jubilee finally getting the respect she deserves, Cable being too damn small in Deadpool 2, Fantastic Four problems, Marvel’s post-Endgame identity crisis, and why consequences make superhero stories better.Plus our newest questionable idea: Coffee Made the Movie, where perfectly normal movie plots get rewritten as caffeinated fever dreams.Got a coffee confession, instant-coffee horror story, movie opinion, or something you think we absolutely need to argue about? My Son Came Out as Christian B3.E4

Some kids come home with tattoos. Some announce a new relationship. Charles’ 13-year-old walked into the room with the nervous energy of a major life confession and announced: he’s a Christian. Somehow, that’s not even the strangest thing that happens this episode. We kick things off with smart kids doing spectacularly dumb things: identifying Wonderwall from a single E-minor chord, cleaning mirrors with toilet cleaner, and blaming household atrocities on the mysterious Taco Bell-fueled “house ghost.” Then the coffee kicks in and everything goes completely off the rails. We’re talking: Why Charles wants strangers to stop wishing him Happy Father’s DayJosh’s Starbucks confession and the horrifying phrase “smooth plums”Terrible '90s hair, Metal Amish facial hair, and Christian-kid rebellionWhy strangers apparently need reminders not to pick up other people’s childrenAtlanta merging versus the vehicular death match known as MemphisCharles’ son legitimately “coming out as Christian” to his parentsChurch trauma, faith, deconstruction, belonging, and why “Christian” may need about a thousand asterisksThe birth of Christians AnonymousRating movies as coffee—from gas-station instant regret to freshly roasted single-origin perfectionDisclosure Day, Hoppers, Superman, and the glorious perfection of Project Hail MaryThe accidental creation of a new universal punchline: “That was your nickname in high school.”Somewhere in all of this, we actually discuss coffee. Aquarium coffee, Starbucks horchata shaken espresso, instant garbage, off-the-shelf mediocrity, and the kind of single-origin coffee that deserves its own Colombian barista. Metallica, Man Juice, and the $50 Selfie B3.E3

We started with celebrity encounters and convention culture. Somehow we ended up debating whether Lars Ulrich can actually play drums, discovering what the Load album cover really is, microwaving instant coffee, discussing oral sex in church marriage counseling, and mourning the Napoleon Dynamite screening that was sacrificed for absolutely nothing. So… a normal cup of coffee around here. This episode dives into the weird relationship between creators and the people watching them: meeting fans in Walmart parking lots, celebrities charging $50 for selfies, why Dragon Con feels different from corporate conventions, and what happens when somebody else's opinion gets lodged in your creative brain. Then Metallica hijacks the conversation. We talk Some Kind of Monster, whether Lars sucks at drums, $110 hoodies, Korn, Blockbuster clearance treasures, seven-string guitars, concerts that ruled, concerts that absolutely did not, and one bizarre Metallica show where James Hetfield couldn't perform and half the festival basically became Metallica for the night. Eventually, underneath all the caffeine and man-juice jokes, we accidentally stumble into something useful: Who actually gets a vote on your creativity? Trolls? Algorithms? Views? Friends? Family? The random dude who thinks your karaoke sounds like strangled seagulls? Maybe the trick isn't ignoring criticism. Maybe it's knowing whose criticism has actually earned a seat at the table. And somewhere in there we also learn that missing an early screening of Napoleon Dynamite for church marriage counseling is a trauma nobody should have to endure. Got a story, complaint, coffee confession, or something we absolutely need to argue about? thelittlebrownpill@gmail.comlinktr.ee/thelittlebrownpill Share this episode with somebody whose creative cup needs a refill—or with the friend who keeps reheating instant coffee in the microwave and clearly needs an intervention. You’re Not a Coffee Shop, Get Out B3-E2

Apparently, selling muffins next to a silver carafe does not make you a coffee shop. This week, Charles and Josh establish the completely arbitrary—but absolutely correct—rules for determining whether your local caffeine dealer deserves to call itself a coffee shop. No pour-over? Suspicious. Don’t know your roast? Get out. Push-button machine doing all the work? Congratulations, you’re a gas station with better furniture. Then things wander exactly where they shouldn’t. We get into AI-generated art having no soul, why Charles refuses to put human faces in AI graphics, the horrifying possibility of an AI-generated podcast, and why actual creativity still requires a human being somewhere in the process. Somehow this leads to Beastie Boys, Doctor Demento, squirrels, Weird Al, Wilson Fisk impressions, and the very real possibility that The Little Brown Pill needs to record an entire coffee parody album. Then we ask the important pop-culture question nobody else had the courage to ask: What would the characters from Daredevil drink? Wilson Fisk is meticulously weighing some obscenely expensive Italian roast. Daredevil may be drinking garbage street coffee. Foggy deserves better. Karen Page gets absolutely no mercy. And yes, we spend far too much time seriously debating fictional coffee orders. Also in this batch of caffeinated nonsense: • The official launch of “You’re Not a Coffee Shop”• Why roast dates matter• The Bougie Brothers reveal themselves• Drive-thru coffee establishments go on trial• Charles discovers he can finally enjoy listening to his own shows• AI art versus something that actually feels human• The coffee parody album nobody requested• Gen X radio nostalgia and Doctor Demento• Daredevil, Fisk, Foggy, and Karen’s coffee orders• Why binge-watching changes how a show hits• Listener stories, fake Cherokee ancestry, and West Virginia• Why real opinions are becoming weirdly refreshing• Stand-up comedy, crowd work, and getting old enough to stop caring Think we’re wrong about what qualifies as a coffee shop? Good. We want the argument. Tell us your coffee-shop dealbreaker, send us your thoughts, or just explain why Josh and Charles have finally disappeared too far inside their own caffeine-fueled asses: thelittlebrownpill@gmail.comlinktr.ee/thelittlebrownpill And share this episode with somebody who treats Starbucks like a personality trait. Think of it like buying a friend a cup of coffee—except it costs you nothing, and we’re considerably harder to spill in your lap. Apparently Size Matters When You’re Pressing Your Beans

We lost some of our best material because somebody hit record without actually recording, so naturally Batch 3 begins with coffee-induced bowel movements, a suspiciously sex-toy-shaped French press, naked podcast ASMR, and an argument over how the hell you spell “bougie.” Welcome back to The Little Brown Pill, where the coffee got more expensive and the conversations somehow got less responsible. Charles has upgraded from a $10 IKEA French press to a $40 contraption with double filters, paper filters, a third filter hiding in the pour spout, and enough printed safety instructions to suggest somebody absolutely tried putting this thing directly on a stove. This leads to the important realization that size does, in fact, matter—at least when your normal serving of coffee is roughly the volume of a small aquarium. From there, things wander exactly where they shouldn’t. We get smoked sugar from a barbecue festival, Wagyu jerky, why you can’t drink everybody’s coffee, growing up ridiculously sheltered in the South, teenage road trips before cell phones, church potlucks, sneaking forbidden movies, and Josh nearly turning a Nashville concert into Mortal Kombat after somebody messed with his son. Then we get nerdy about music: Bilmuri, Jelly Roll, Taylor Swift, 90s country, grunge, hip-hop, Metallica with an orchestra, and why sometimes the song that matters isn’t the one offering an answer—it’s the one that reminds you that you actually want to get back up. And somehow that turns into a surprisingly serious conversation about language, swearing, intent, race, comedy, the internet deciding what you’re allowed to joke about, and the exhausting process of learning to be yourself instead of letting an algorithm decide who that person should be. Also discussed, against everyone’s better judgment: Coffee Marines leaving no cup behindWhy LaCroix looks like 1990s discount-store sadnessR2-D2 French press innuendoSweet’N Low emergency medical equipment“Bless your heart” as Southern verbal warfareWhy horror-movie characters are idiotsBeing 16 before cell phones was apparently a survival gameConcert dads versus drunk assholesFinding couple friends being harder than starting a bandThe possibility of taking this nonsense on tourGot a coffee confession, terrible opinion, childhood story, or something you desperately need us to argue about? Christian Music Broke Before Daredevil Did

One minute we're arguing over coffee mugs that don't get hot. The next we're debating whether Daredevil peaked on Netflix, roasting Keurig coffee, reliving Christian music from the '90s, and accidentally unpacking church trauma with more honesty than either of us planned. This batch starts with funeral foam macchiatos and zoo beer, detours through Marvel, The Walking Dead, Devil May Cry, metal bands, haircuts, and nostalgic Christian pop culture before taking a surprisingly real turn into faith, religion, community, hypocrisy, and what actually matters. It's funny, uncomfortable, nostalgic, caffeinated... and somehow still ends exactly where it should. Coffee Cults, Space Trauma, and Church Kids Gone Wrong

Grab a fresh cup and join us as we spiral through: Why Project Hail Mary might be the best sci-fi movie in years (and why the book is even better) Coffee snobbery, chicory, espresso crema, and the war against Folgers The emotional damage of church youth groups and growing up awkward Why modern work culture is broken—and why Gen Z might actually be right Love on the Spectrum, reality TV, and finding genuine human connection Creative burnout, chasing dreams, podcasting, and building a life that actually fits Coffee rabbit holes, Dragon Con stories, and the First Rule of Little Brown Pill Club Got your own coffee obsession, weird nostalgia, or completely unrelated tangent?
