    Episode 14 - Danny Atherton

On this episode of If You Can Make It Here, You Can Make It Anywhere, we sit down with former Liverpool FC goalkeeper Danny Atherton for a conversation that goes far beyond football. Danny talks about his journey at Liverpool FC, His relationship ith Jurgen Klopp and the experience of being part of one of the biggest clubs in world football, and the pressures, expectations and challenges that come with trying to make it in the professional game. We also hear about the latest chapter in his football journey with the Baller League, before Danny opens up about a much more personal side of his story — his own struggles with mental health. He speaks openly about some of the difficult periods he’s been through, what he’s learned from those experiences and why he now wants to use his own story to help other people who may be struggling. Danny has an idea to take that support directly into the community by creating his own mobile podcast, working alongside local charities and giving people a place to talk, be heard and hopefully realise that they don’t have to face difficult times alone. Rather than allowing his experiences to define him, Danny wants to use them to make a difference to somebody else. It made for a really open conversation about football, pressure, mental health, resilience and purpose — and about what success can mean beyond what happens on the pitch. A massive thank you to Danny for trusting us with his story and for speaking so openly.
