The Oklahoma Covenanters

Justin

Jesus promised that he would build his church, and the gates of hell would not prevail against it. Satan is the master of distraction. We are the Oklahoma Covenanters. What are the Oklahoma Covenanters? We share the convictions with those who have gone before us who have fought for, suffered, and died for Christ and His Covenant. Our allegiance is to Christ our Lord and Redeemer above all earthly authorities. Our commitment is to speak God's covenantal truth and promises as revealed in the Word of God. Our willingness is to stand firm to these principles even if it means we suffer. Our Constitution: We, God's covenant people, are committed to doing our part to obey the great commission, stewarding our gifts in doing ordinary hard work to the glory of God, trusting in the Lord to use his ordinary means of grace, and resting on the Lord's Day as we gather to meet with Him at His request. We will hold to this regular rhythm until the Lord Jesus returns and brings the consummation of every covenant promise. Why Covenant Theology? We believe that Oklahoma's great need is for the planting and revitalizing of churches churches through consistent communication and application of covenant theology. The covenant concept is both the unifying theme of reformed theology and the greatest gift we can give our state. J.I. Packer stated, “The gospel of God, the word of God, and the reality of God is not properly understood till it is viewed within a covenantal frame.” Our Purpose: We hope to build a network and community throughout the state to accomplish our mission. We see this podcast as one component whereby we can achieve our goals because we will have conversations that equip Oklahomans to apply covenant theology to all of life.

Episode 2: "Christ Fulfills All: the Covenant of Works" w/ Dr. Richard Belcher

We can more fully comprehend the grace of God in Jesus Christ to sinners when we revisit the first pages of the story in Genesis 1-2. It was there when God created Adam and entered into a covenant with him as the covenant head of all his descendants. Every person born after Adam remains under the obligations of this covenant, which cannot be met unless Christ fulfills all, and we receive the obedience of his works by faith. Equipped with this understanding of a bi-covenantal structure to salvation history: Covenant of Works and Covenant of Grace, we can read our Bibles and find Christ on every page as he is the true and better Adam (Romans 5:12-21). In this episode, Ryan and I were blessed to discuss the Bible with Dr. Richard Belcher. Dr. Belcher has 30 years of experience in the biblical studies classrooms of Reformed Theological Seminary and has written many books on his specialization of the Old Testament, paricularly on Ecclesiastes and the wisdom literature. If you'd like to learn more about Reformed Theology, particularly covenant theology, and explore how you can partner with us in planting more reformed churches in Oklahoma, please reach out.
