    Draft and Craft #1: Duplex Pix

    Welcome to Draft & Craft, Quibble Lit’s new premium writing gameshow podcast—a little writing group and prompt challenge in your pocket. The idea grew from advice we hear often on Author Up: find a writing group. Draft & Craft brings some of that shared energy, encouragement, and discovery to anyone with a pen, a half hour, and a little curiosity. Discover new voices, laugh or play along, and watch as we bubble out bespoke poetry and push our boundaries — together!     This week on Author Up, we welcome poet and Quippy Choice Award winner Oak Morse for a conversation about the craft, career, and creative possibilities of poetry. A recipient of the 2025 Larry Levis Post-Graduate Award and the 2024 A Public Space Writing Fellowship, Oak’s work has appeared in POETRY, Electric Literature, Black Warrior Review, Obsidian, and numerous other publications. His poetry brings together musicality, cultural memory, and an adventurous approach to language. We sit down with Oak to explore the writer behind the work, celebrate his Quippy Choice Award-winning poem, “Color Me Razz,” and consider the many ways a poet develops a voice that is unmistakably their own.     This week on Author Up, we’re joined by poet Erica Miriam Fabri and Quibble poetry editor Lisa Lois. Erica Miriam Fabri is a poet, writer, and educator whose work has moved across the page, performance, and a wide range of creative spaces. She is the author of two poetry collections, Dialect of a Skirt, published by Hanging Loose Press, and most recently Morphology, winner of the 2024 Jack McCarthy Award from and published by Write Bloody Publishing (Write Bloody Publishing) . Across her career, Erica has also worked on writing and editorial projects with organizations including Urban Word NYC, HBO, Nickelodeon, and the New York Knicks. We begin with Erica’s path through poetry, the development of her work, and the career and community that have grown around it, and then widen the conversation to a discussion on the importance and influence of good reviews. Lisa Lois, a Canadian poet and poetry editor at Quibble Lit, recently reviewed Morphology for Compulsive Reader. As Lisa shared with me some of the success her review had recently brought her, I saw a rare chance to bring poet and reviewer into the same conversation: to talk about what a reviewer notices, what a writer learns from being read closely, and what good criticism can offer both the artist and the audience. It’s an episode about poetry, certainly, and also attention, interpretation, and the value of responding to someone’s work seriously.     #24: Anne Louise Phillips

    This week’s guest on Author UP is Anne Louise Phillips, a Mississippi-based author of children’s and middle-grade fiction, poet, & poetry editor at Quibble Lit. Anne Louise and I first “met” in 2024, back when her poem “Overheard” was published in Issue 7: Simple. Little. Scribble. She reached out to ask about volunteering in 2025, and has been a big part of our wonderful poetry team ever since. Anne Louise first self-published children’s fiction at 18 under the pseudonym of Weez Phillips. After graduating with a BA in English from Missisissippi State University, she is a current MFA candidate at Mississippi University for Women. Her stories and poems have also been published in Cicadian Rhythm Zine, Big Muddy, and The Streetcar. Her voice is atmospheric, influenced by magical realism, and rooted in place. In this episode, we find out the secret to her pet snail’s long & happy life, what she’s learned in her time as a poetry editor, and how she’s authored her editor positions into place.     Announcing Our Podcast Rebrand

    We’re excited and delighted to share some news: Sunday SubDays will from here on be known as Author Up. “Sunday SubDays” has been a truly marvelous experience, as I continue learning more career insights from writers each week. The name, however, is a remnant from an earlier form of the idea. We believe the name “Author Up” will serve our guests, current listeners, and new audience members as a more accurate description of the show’s focus. This is not a change in name only, but a renewed mission statement, as we’re setting our sights higher and wider each episode. For now, much of the format of the show will remain familiar. The show will remain free, and we’ll still alternate weekly between Featured Guests and Featured Voices. But our eyes are lifted skyward as we aim to enrichen the experience all around, for our guests and listeners. We wouldn’t be here without you, so: Thank You. It’s been a dream of mine for years (5+) to find a meaningful way of producing a podcast platform that can help elevate writing. There are more irons in the fire, and better is always nice, but I feel tremendously blessed for all the fun I’ve had already. And I feel immensely grateful and honored for each one of our listeners, especially those who have shared such kind and generous encouragement and feedback.     #23: JeFF Stumpo (Featured Guest)

    This week, we’re joined by poet JeFF Stumpo, author of these are the waterfalls in my head, winner of the 2026 Granite State Poetry Prize and published this spring by Yas Press. JeFF has had one of those wonderfully winding writing lives: slam poet and organizer, bookstore owner, adjunct professor, the author of five chapbooks, a spoken-word album, and a growing body of poems that seem equally at home on the page and in the air. His poem “prayer is a whirring in the spacetime fabric” was selected for a Quippy Choice Award in our inaugural Ps & Qs Audio Poem Contest. We talk about JeFF’s path through poetry, performance, and the playful hard work of continuing to make things. We discuss showing up through nervousness, unique forms and poems that push boundaries, and what effects performance can have upon the unexpecting. (hint: check out “Two Poems” he published with The Rumpus, for an example of a poem within a sudoku grid) In the last ten minutes, JeFF flips the script on me, and conducts a mini-interview of the host (me!) I hadn’t intended to talk about myself, Quibble, or the podcast as much... but JeFF’s a good interviewer! His interest and questions were open, and it was nice to share and reflect together on what this path through 2026 has looked like. JeFF immediately impressed me as a deeply intelligent and deeply caring person. I found a lot of kinship between us - it seems our approach on projects is somewhat similar - as well as a lot to aspire for, in his gentleness, generosity, and persistence of spirit.
