He talks about growing up in Australia and England, convincing himself he'd get into Cambridge University despite everyone around him saying otherwise, failing his Marines fitness test and coming back to pass it as one of the top recruits, running a 2.33 marathon and leaving his dream job as a firefighter to build a coaching business helping endurance athletes push beyond what they think is possible.     In episode eleven of Someone's Gotta Do It, I sit down with Don Hetherington. Don suffered an early life trauma that changed the entire direction of his life. What followed were years of addiction, crime and prison. A cycle he felt he'd never escape. He talks about what it feels like to be in addiction, spending years in prison, and the moment a chance encounter with an old friend who had been clean for three years changed everything. He opens up about his last day using, the daily steps he takes to stay clean, and rebuilding relationships with his daughter and his family that he thought were gone forever. He talks about being diagnosed with autism, struggling with social interaction through school and being bullied as a result. He opens up about how stepping into martial arts changed his confidence, his mindset and his outlook on life. He also talks about leaving school, finding his way into a pipefitting apprenticeship, and why he thinks his generation needs to stop waiting for opportunities to come to them.     In episode nine of Someone's Gotta Do It, I sit down with Joe ’Taco’ Ormond. At just three months old, Taco was given up by his birth mother in El Salvador in the hope he could have a better life. Soon after, he was adopted by a couple in the UK who gave him exactly that. He talks about growing up adopted, his love of football, building his own sports massage business, and how the COVID-19 pandemic led him into residential childcare, working with children from some of the most complex and difficult backgrounds imaginable. There's a quiet irony that isn't lost on him and he now spends his life helping children who, like him, were need of a better start. He also opens up about meeting his blood sister for the first time, the grief of losing his adoptive mother, becoming a father himself, his alter-ego Taco and the things that keep him grounded.     In episode eight of Someone's Gotta Do It, I sit down with Jack Clarke. Jack’s career path takes more turns than anyone I've spoken to so far. Graphic design, customer service, complaints handling, answering 999 calls, travelling the world for a pet company, and a redundancy that left him with nothing before a chance conversation with a local business owner led to selling coffees and donuts from a tuktuk van in Chorley. His passion for coffee and customer interaction then found him opening his own coffee shop. Jack now owns and runs one of the best coffee shops in Preston. He talks about discovering his passion for customer experience in the most unexpected places, what it takes to bounce back from rock bottom, and why sometimes the best opportunities come from the conversations you never planned to have. This story was fantastic and an absolute pleasure to record. Terry grew up on a council estate in a house filled with snakes, iguanas, pygmy goats, turkeys, tropical birds and even an eagle owl! His childhood changed everything about the way he sees the world. He talks about how that upbringing sparked a lifelong passion for nature and the outdoors, his journey from BTEC sports teacher to outdoor education specialist, and why he believes that getting vulnerable children outside and into nature might be one of the most important things for them. From operating theatres, to intensive care, to the moment a simple white lie saw her retrain as a midwife. She talks about what it really takes to become a qualified midwife, the relationships she builds with the women she supports, and the switch  between caring for people who are ill and caring for people who are not ill but simply bringing new life into the world.
