Space, Power, People - A citizen's guide to democracy in orbit. We connect developments in space with our everyday life on earth. How does trash in orbit impact planes and ships on earth? What influence do rocket launches have on national sovereignty?  Why is modern agriculture unthinkable without satellites? Could controll over orbits define the outcome of a war? We are not looking at the technological details, but bring a European and democratic view on developments that that influence our life's but are hidden in the darkness of space.  Your hots are Valerie Chartrain, a future researcher from France, and Niklas Nienass, a space lawyer from Germany.

SPP #4 - How To Own Outer Space

Space is infinite, right? Well, yes, but actually no. Of course, the universe is infinite, but the usable space around Earth is not. Technology and the laws of physics limit the number of satellites we can use. And yet, only a few people control the majority of the space around Earth. The star of the show: of course, Elon Musk. He owns a whopping 40% of all satellites humans have put into orbit. Is it really just ambition, or is there another agenda to acquire that much fof space's limited real estate?

SPP #3 - How War Is Coming To Outer Space

Of course nobody is shooting laser guns and fighting with light sabers any time soon. But war is already decided in space. Satellites locate troops precisely, guide missiles or enable communications. And the world's super powers plan for more: some test to destroy satellites, others plan to station weapons in space. Will our night sky become a new battleground?

SPP #2 - How Europe Organises Space Travel

Everyone knows NASA, but what about ESA, DLR, CNES, or Belspo? Europe is home to at least 27 different space organizations. This diversity comes with benefits, but also with major drawbacks. In this episode, we explore how Europe’s space governance is structured, why it matters, and how it could evolve to better serve the future. We’ll dive into funding, internal rivalries, and the latest EU space laws. And trust us—it’s far more fascinating than it might first appear.

SPP #1 - How satellites shape our civilisation

Satellites are everywhere. At night, you can see some of them moving quickly across the dark sky. But they are also in our phones, on our vacations, and on our plates. Modern civilization wouldn’t be possible without satellites. That’s why, in our first episode of this citizen’s guide to democracy in orbit, we are taking a closer look at the basis of human activity in space. Satellites are our spaceships that vary in size, distance, and functionality. But besides the immense positive impact these marvels of engineering have, there is also a dark side and a catastrophe on the horizon. Tune in to Space, Power, People to get the full picture and understand why satellites mean power and why trash endangers our civilization.
