    Your First Alert Forecast: Halloween Rain & Election Day Storms | October 30, 2026

    Scattered showers with occasional rumbles of thunder will increase in coverage across East Texas Friday night into Saturday morning. Some high school football games may go forward with the rain, but no significant weather delays are expected. There is no risk for severe weather from the Storm Prediction Center. Saturday (Halloween) will feature cloudy skies and scattered showers. The chance for rain will decrease into Saturday evening - good news for trick-or-treating! Attention then shifts to early next week when a cold front is forecast to bring a drop in temperatures and a line of thunderstorms to East Texas Monday night into Tuesday (Election Day). As of Friday afternoon, the Storm Prediction Center has not published a severe weather risk for Tuesday. That said, the First Alert Weather Team has designated Tuesday a First Alert Weather Day. It appears there will be at least a low-end risk for severe storms, primarily bringing a damaging wind risk, Tuesday morning through midday.   Today in weather history... October 30, 1979, an outbreak of 14 tornadoes struck Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. Six of these tornadoes were significant (F2+), the strongest of which were F3s at Breckenridge, TX, and Woodford, OK. Three people were killed and eighteen were injured.     Dry Tomorrow Before Rain Returns This Weekend | October 28, 2026

    The forecast remains dry through Thursday, despite mostly cloudy to overcast skies that are expected through early next week. Chances for rain will return to East Texas on Friday and increase Saturday (Halloween). Additional chances for rain are in the forecast for Monday and Tuesday to begin next week. At this time, the Storm Prediction Center does not have East Texas under a risk for severe weather at any time with these shower and thunderstorm chances. We'll continue to monitor for any changes and share those as we get them.   Today in weather history... October 28, 2020, Hurricane Zeta made landfall in Louisiana as a Category 3. The storm beat the 1921 Tampa hurricane as the latest Category 3+ to strike the US in a calendar year. Zeta killed six people and produced nearly $4 billion in damage in the United States.     Dry Wednesday and Thursday Before Halloween Weekend Rain | October 27, 2026

    Clearing skies are in the forecast for Tuesday night after a mostly cloudy day. Wednesday and Thursday will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy and dry, with highs in the 80s. Chances for rain return to the forecast Friday and stick around for Saturday (Halloween). Sunday will trend dry before more rain is anticipated with a cold front Monday night into Tuesday morning. The cold front will drop highs into the lower 70s, and lows into the 40s. While there is not currently a risk for severe weather with Monday/Tuesday's rain, we are monitoring that possibility and will keep you apprised of any new information.   Today in weather history... October 27th, 1913, an outbreak of at least eight tornadoes impacted England and Wales. One tornado caused estimated F3 damage to the Taff Valley towns of Abercynon and Edwardsville, where many houses were unroofed. The tornado killed at least 5 people and injured more than 100 others. This is the deadliest known tornado ever recorded in the United Kingdom.     Low 80s This Week, Then Rain Moves In for the Weekend | October 26, 2026

    Mostly cloudy skies are expected Tuesday, along with a low chance for rain through most of the day. Temperatures will remain warm for late October, in the low 80s, through Thursday. Showers and thunderstorms return to the forecast Friday through early next week, including the highest chance for rain on Saturday (Halloween). Severe weather is currently not in the forecast; however, thunderstorms alone could create hazards trick-or-treating conditions Saturday night. Stay tuned for updates and the timing and finer details are refined.   Today in weather history, or in today's case, yesterday... October 25, 1975, eight days after being launched by NASA, GOES-1 sent back its first image of Earth. GOES-1 was the first in NOAA's line of weather observation satellites that are still in use today.     East Texas Weekend Warmth in the 80s & Tracking Rain for Halloween | October 23, 2026

    Happy Friday! We've made it to the end of the week, and this weekend will feature highs in the 80s under skies that will go from mostly sunny on Saturday to mostly cloudy on Sunday. The forecast for the weekend remains dry, and the chance for rain next Tuesday has been removed from the forecast. The first have of next week will trend dry and warm, highs remaining in the upper 70s and 80s. By the end of the week, showers and thunderstorms will return to East Texas. A continued first alert, we're tracking a notable chance for rain on Halloween that may disrupt your plans next Saturday. Additionally, the Climate Prediction Center is highlighting East Texas for a heavy precipitation risk from October 31 through November 2. Stay tuned for updates!   Today in weather history... October 23, 1920, Dr. Ted Fujita was born in the Fukuoka Prefecture of Japan. Fujita devoted his life to the study of tornadoes, supercells, and downbursts. He is most notably the creator of the scale utilized by the National Weather Service to rate tornadoes.     Warm Weekend in the 80s, Rain Returns for Halloween | October 22, 2026

    Friday will be a sunny to mostly sunny day with highs in the low to middle 80s. Light winds and mostly clear skies are expected for high school football Friday night, with temperatures dropping into the 60s. This weekend will feature highs in the 80s under a range of mostly sunny to mostly cloudy skies. A low chance for rain remains in the forecast for Tuesday, then higher chances for rain are in the forecast for the end of next week. We are continuing to give the first alert to the possibility of rain on Halloween.   Today in weather history... October 22, 2017, a single megaflash lightning bolt was captured by NOAA’s GOES-16 satellite. The horizontal distance of the bolt stretched 515 miles from eastern TX to near Kansas City, MO. In July 2025, the WMO certified the measurement as a world record.     Your First Alert: Halloween Rain Could Impact Trick-or-Treating | October 21, 2026

    Temperatures through the end of the week will run near to slightly above normal for late October, lows in the 50s and highs in the 70s/low 80s. The forecast remains dry until Tuesday of next week, when a front will bring a low chance for rain to East Texas. The next best chance for rain will not be until next weekend, Halloween weekend. This is your first alert that trick-or-treating the night of Halloween could be affected by showers and thunderstorms.    Today in weather history... October 21, 1934, a severe windstorm lashed the northern Pacific coast. The system claimed 22 lives in Washington State and caused ~$1.7 million in damage. Winds gusting to 87 mph at North Head, WA, produced waves twenty feet high on the Puget Sound. Today's daily weather history segment comes to us courtesy of the Southeast Regional Climate Center.   This week's weather word is "ora."     Could East Texas Remain Dry Through the End of the Month? | October 20, 2026

    Near normal to slightly warmer than normal temperatures for mid-to-late October are expected to continue through the end of the month. Unfortunately, little to no rain is in the forecast for the same time period. High temperatures will be in the upper 70s and low 80s for the next 7 to 10 days, and morning lows will be in the 50s. A weak cold front early next week may bring some rain to East Texas on Tuesday, but the chance is currently low.   Today in weather history... October 20-21, 2019, Nearly three dozen tornadoes impacted six states spanning from Texas to Tennessee. Three were significant (EF2+), the strongest of which was an EF3 that caused over $1.5 billion in damage in the Dallas metro.
