What I'm doing here is simple, I get in front of a mic and start talking. I've been given the gift of gab and damn it, I'm gonna use it. All honesty, some goofs, and definitely no apologies.

    why i hate(d) halloween.

The spoopy season is here, and I am feeling quite spoopy indeed. Do to the spoopy mood that's been upon me, I reckoned I'd talk all things spoopy in this episode. From Disney Sing Alongs, to the haunted houses I grew up in, all the way to how my brother used a stuff moose to take my childhood innocence. Enjoy.

    am i an adult?

Adulting is a phrase I've grown to hate, though I understand it fully. People nowadays see being an adult as an exclusively serious and life-draining thing. Well I'm here to say that you don't need to be boring to be an adult. Enjoy.

    fear is destroying you.

We are ruled by fear. But this is not how it needs to be. Today I wanted to talk through what I've been learning about how to conquer fear in my own life and the incredible freedom that you get when you succeed. Hope you enjoy all the places I go and get something useful from it.

    i'm (not) okay.

In complete honesty, I didn't plan this one. I just grabbed the mic because I needed to get something out. This past week has been the heaviest I've felt in a while. Pressure about purpose, about time, about what I'm actually doing with all of this. I turned 20, hit a year of living on my own, and somehow both of those things hit me harder than I expected.I don't have answers here. Just me, a new desk setup, and a wall that's kind of falling apart. Which maybe says something.

    dealing with regret.

This one came out of a sick day with nowhere to be and a head full of mucus and thoughts. Something about being that kind of sick — the weird, floaty kind — makes everything go quiet and the brain goes somewhere else entirely. I ended up thinking a lot about change, about the trip I just got back from, about hobbies that never stick and the ones that somehow do. In complete honesty, I don't have answers to any of it. Just thinking out loud.

    dancing changed me.

Nine months ago I signed up for a swing dancing class mostly just to get out of my apartment. In complete honesty, I did not expect it to change the way I carry myself in public. This episode is me trying to explain what partner dancing actually is, why I think it's one of the more quietly meaningful things a person can do, and why I think the discomfort of it is kind of the whole point. It doesn't always feel easy to put yourself out there like that — but something about it just sticks with you.

how i made friends as an adult.

Being alone is hard. Building community from scratch is harder. This one's about why I think "finding" friends is actually the wrong frame — and what I've been doing instead since I moved here with basically nobody. In complete honesty, it took a lot of trial and error, some intentional loneliness, and eventually a dance studio and an improv class to figure any of this out. I'm not sure I have it all figured out. But I think I'm getting somewhere.

why I've never had social media.

I've never been on social media. That's a choice I made when I was 14. This episode starts there, but it goes somewhere else pretty quickly. The real thing I've been sitting with is that envy and distraction aren't a social media problem. They're a us problem. That's either discouraging or freeing depending on how you look at it. I think it's both, honestly. Glad you're here.
