Why Do Catholics Pray to Saints? Is It Biblical?

Why do Catholics pray to saints when Jesus Christ is the one mediator between God and humanity? Is praying to saints biblical—or is it a form of idolatry? In Episode 16 of Divinely Catholic: Two Roads. One Church., a former Evangelical, and a cradle Catholic, explore one of the most misunderstood teachings of the Catholic Church: the Communion of Saints. 🙏 Do Catholics worship saints? Can saints in heaven hear our prayers? Does asking a saint to intercede contradict 1 Timothy 2:5? We begin with the historic beatification of Blessed Fulton J. Sheen on September 24, 2026, exploring the Catholic canonization process, the miracle attributed to his intercession, and why his beatification was delayed. Questions that I struggled with as an Evangelical. Why would anyone pray to a saint when they can go directly to Jesus? Doesn't the Bible forbid communicating with the dead? Together, we examine Scripture, Catholic teaching, and the historical Christian understanding of intercessory prayer. ✝️ IN THIS EPISODE: 🔹 What happened at Fulton Sheen's beatification? 🔹 How does someone become a Catholic saint? 🔹 Why do Catholics ask saints to pray for them? 🔹 Is Jesus the only mediator? (1 Timothy 2:5) 🔹 Is praying to saints the same as necromancy? 🔹 Can the saints in heaven hear our prayers? 🔹 What do Revelation 5:8 and Revelation 8:3–4 reveal about heavenly intercession? 🔹 Why do Catholics honor statues and sacred images? 🔹 What's the difference between latria, dulia, and hyperdulia? 🔹 What is the Communion of Saints? 📖 SCRIPTURE REFERENCES • 1 Timothy 2:1–5 — Intercessory prayer and Christ, the one mediator • Luke 20:37–38 — God is God of the living • Revelation 5:8 — Heavenly elders and the prayers of the saints • Revelation 8:3–4 — Prayers offered before God • Revelation 6:9–11 — The martyrs in heaven • Hebrews 12:1 — The great cloud of witnesses • James 5:16 — The power of righteous prayer • 1 Corinthians 12:12–27 — One Body in Christ • Romans 8:35–39 — Nothing separates us from God's love • Deuteronomy 18:10–12 — The prohibition against necromancy • Ecclesiastes 9:5–6 — Understanding the dead and earthly life • Matthew 17:1–8 — The Transfiguration • Exodus 25:18–22 — Sacred images of cherubim • Numbers 21:8–9 — The bronze serpent 📚 CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH • CCC 946–962 — The Communion of Saints • CCC 954–955 — The Church on earth and in heaven • CCC 956 — The intercession of the saints • CCC 957–958 — Communion with the saints and the dead • CCC 2634–2636 — Prayer of intercession • CCC 2683–2684 — Witnesses to prayer • CCC 828 — Canonization and heroic virtue • CCC 2096–2097 — Adoration belongs to God • CCC 2112–2114 — Idolatry • CCC 2129–2132 — Sacred images and veneration 🔗 RESOURCES FOR FURTHER STUDY 📖 Catechism — The Communion of Saints:https://www.vatican.va/content/catechism/en/part_one/section_two/chapter_three/article_9/paragraph_5_the_communion_of_saints.html 📖 Catechism — Prayer of Intercession:https://www.vatican.va/content/catechism/en/part_four/section_one/chapter_one/article_3/iii_prayer_of_intercession.html ⛪ Blessed Fulton Sheen Foundation:https://www.celebratesheen.com/

Do Catholics Worship Mary? Why Catholics Pray to Mary

Do Catholics worship Mary? Why do Catholics pray to Mary when they can go directly to Jesus? And doesn’t the Bible say there is only ONE mediator between God and man? These were some of the biggest questions Jackie had as an Evangelical exploring Catholicism—and they’re questions many Protestants, Evangelicals, fallen-away Catholics, and even practicing Catholics still ask. In Episode 15 of Divinely Catholic: Two Roads. One Church., Jackie and Bernardo approach Mary from two very different Christian backgrounds. Jackie once looked at Catholics kneeling before statues, praying the Rosary, saying the Hail Mary, and calling Mary the “Mother of God” and wondered: How is this NOT worship? Bernardo grew up Catholic and knew Catholics didn’t worship Mary—but later realized he needed to understand why the Church teaches what it does and how to explain those beliefs from Scripture and Catholic teaching. Together, we tackle the questions honestly—without dismissing Protestant concerns or assuming Catholics already know the answers. ✝️ IN THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS: • Do Catholics actually worship Mary? • What is the difference between prayer, veneration, and worship? • Why pray to Mary when we can go directly to Jesus? • Does asking Mary to pray for us contradict 1 Timothy 2:5? • Is praying to Mary the same as communicating with the dead? • Are Mary and the saints actually “dead”? • Can Mary hear millions of prayers? • Why does the Catholic Church honor Mary so highly? • What happened at the Wedding at Cana? • Where does the Hail Mary come from in Scripture? • Is the Rosary “vain repetition”? • Why do Catholics kneel before statues of Mary? • Why is Mary called the Mother of God? • What does “Queen of Heaven” mean? • Did Jesus give Mary to Christians as a spiritual mother? • And most importantly: Does Mary compete with Jesus—or point us toward Him? 📖 SCRIPTURES DISCUSSED Luke 1:28 — Gabriel's greeting to Mary Luke 1:38 — “Let it be done to me according to your word.” Luke 1:42 — “Blessed are you among women.” Luke 1:48 — “All generations will call me blessed.” Luke 20:38 — God is God of the living John 2:1–11 — Mary and the Wedding at Cana John 19:26–27 — “Behold, your mother.” Acts 1:14 — Mary praying with the early Church 1 Corinthians 12:12–27 — The Body of Christ 1 Timothy 2:1–5 — Intercession and Christ, the one Mediator James 5:16 — The prayer of the righteous Hebrews 12:1, 22–24 — The heavenly assembly Revelation 5:8 — The prayers of the saints Revelation 8:3–4 — Prayers offered before God 📚 CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH CCC 956 — The intercession of the saints CCC 963–975 — Mary, Mother of Christ and Mother of the Church CCC 970 — Mary's role and Christ's unique mediation CCC 971 — Devotion to the Blessed Virgin CCC 2618 — Mary's intercession at Cana CCC 2673–2679 — Prayer in communion with the Holy Mother of God 🙏 WORSHIP VS. VENERATION Latria — adoration/worship given to God alone Dulia — honor or veneration given to the saints Hyperdulia — the unique veneration given to Mary because of her singular role as the Mother of Jesus Christ Mary is honored—but she is not divine and is not worshiped as God. 👍 LIKE this episode if it helped you understand the Catholic perspective. 🔔 SUBSCRIBE for more conversations about the questions Catholics and Protestants ask about one another. 📤 SHARE this episode with someone who's ever asked, “Why do Catholics pray to Mary?” #Catholic #CatholicFaith #VirginMary #MotherOfGod #CatholicChurch #Catholicism #WhyCatholicsPrayToMary #DoCatholicsWorshipMary #CatholicApologetics #Protestant #Evangelical #Christianity #Rosary #HailMary #DivinelyCatholic

The Pope's Warning About AI: What You Need to Know

What happens when artificial intelligence becomes more than a tool—and begins shaping how we think, whom we trust, and where we seek guidance? In Episode 14 of Divinely Catholic: Two Roads. One Church., Jackie and Vernon examine Pope Leo XIV’s urgent warning about AI—and the deeply comforting truth at the heart of Catholic teaching: A machine may imitate a human voice, face, or conversation, but it can never become a person created in the image and likeness of God. In this episode, we explore: • Why Pope Leo describes AI as a potential “oracle of all advice” • The difference between intelligence, wisdom, and personhood • How artificial companionship can displace real relationships • Deepfakes, misinformation, and the growing crisis of trust • When technology risks becoming an idol • AI’s impact on workers, creators, children, privacy, and warfare • Practical boundaries Catholic families can begin using now • Voice4PIMD, a Notre Dame project demonstrating how human-centered AI can support caregivers and human communication • Why Catholic sacramental life protects an embodied vision of humanity • How Christians can use technology without surrendering conscience, responsibility, or communion The Church is not asking Catholics to panic or abandon technology. She is asking us to judge every tool by a higher standard: Does it protect human dignity? Does it serve truth and freedom? Does it strengthen responsibility and relationship? Does it advance the common good? AI should assist the human person—not become the measure of the human person. We would love to hear from you: Where has AI genuinely helped you? Where do you believe Catholics and other Christians need firmer boundaries? Please keep the conversation charitable, thoughtful, and specific. What Did Jesus Really Mean by “My Church”?

What did Jesus mean when He said, “I will build my Church”? Did Jesus establish the Catholic Church—a visible Church with authority, sacraments, apostolic leadership, and a mission that would continue throughout history? In this episode of Divinely Catholic: Two Roads. One Church., Jackie and Bernardo explore what Catholics really believe about the Church Jesus built and why Catholics believe the Church today has a direct connection to the Church established by Jesus Christ and entrusted to His apostles. Together, we examine Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, apostolic succession, the Magisterium, and the witness of the early Christians to answer one of Christianity's most important questions: Was He simply referring to an invisible collection of believers—or did Christ establish a visible, united, teaching, sacramental, and apostolic Church? For Jackie, coming from an Evangelical Christian background, one question eventually changed everything, Instead of asking, “Which church fits me?” what happens when we begin asking, “Which Church did Jesus establish?” Whether you're Catholic, Protestant, Evangelical, Orthodox, returning to the faith, considering Catholicism, or simply curious about what Catholics believe, we invite you to open your Bible and investigate these questions with us.
