From Occupational Therapy to Senior Placement, Tiffany Wright’s Journey to Helping Families Find the Right Care

What happens when a career helping seniors evolves into a calling to help families navigate some of the hardest decisions they will ever make? In this episode of A Place for Seniors, host Allison Carman sits down with Tiffany Wright of Wrighway Senior Placement Services for a candid conversation about senior living, assisted living, senior placement, family crises, and what it really takes to guide families through the aging journey. Tiffany’s career in senior care began more than 30 years ago as an occupational therapist working with seniors in skilled nursing and rehabilitation. From there, her path took unexpected turns through assisted living, sales and marketing, hospice, senior placement, veterans benefits, and eventually entrepreneurship. And as Allison quickly discovers, their stories have a lot in common. From Therapy to Senior Living Tiffany never expected her career to take the path it did. After working directly with seniors as an occupational therapist, a physical injury forced her to rethink her future. An opportunity to become an activity director at an assisted living community opened an entirely new door. What she discovered was powerful. She loved seeing residents become healthier, happier, more engaged, and more connected. That experience eventually led Tiffany into senior living sales and marketing, regional leadership, training, hospice, and senior placement. Her career became less about one specific role and more about one consistent mission: Helping people. What Really Happens When a Family Needs Senior Care? One of the most important conversations in this episode is about what happens when families suddenly find themselves in a senior care crisis. Senior placement often begins with a phone call from a family that doesn't know where to turn. They may be dealing with: An aging parent who can no longer live safely aloneA sudden health crisisA fall or hospitalizationThe need for assisted living or memory careFinancial concernsVeterans benefitsCaregiver stressThe overwhelming number of senior living optionsTiffany's early experience in senior placement gave her a unique perspective on these situations. She learned how to listen, ask the right questions, understand what a family actually needs, and help connect them with appropriate resources. The Evolution of Senior Placement Tiffany also shares what it was like working in the early days of senior care, when the senior placement industry looked very different from what many families know today. She was one of the early people working in the Atlanta market and eventually became a regional director of marketing. That experience taught her a tremendous amount about senior living communities, families, marketing, and the business of helping people find care. But eventually, Tiffany realized she wanted something different. She wanted the freedom to build something of her own. So she did. When Experience Becomes Expertise Tiffany's entrepreneurial journey didn't stop with senior placement. She went on to build Lifestyle Senior Connections, operate a VA application service, work with assisted living communities, and even own and operate a 38-bed senior living community in Georgia. Her experience gave her a unique understanding of senior care from multiple perspectives. She has worked with seniors. She has worked with families. She has worked with senior living communities. She has worked with veterans. And she has experienced the business side of senior care. That combination of experience is what makes this conversation so valuable. Veterans Benefits and Senior Care Another important topic is VA benefits and assistance for veterans. Tiffany discusses her experience helping veterans and assisted living communities navigate VA applications and benefits. For families caring for a veteran, understanding available resources can make a meaningful difference in the options they can consider for senior care. This is one of those areas where having someone who understands the process can be incredibly valuable. The Heart Behind Senior Care At its core, this isn't just a conversation about senior placement. It's about people. It's about the families who are trying to make the right decision. It's about professionals who have dedicated decades to helping older adults. And it's about recognizing that finding senior care isn't simply about finding a building. It's about finding the right environment, the right support, and the right people. Allison and Tiffany also share the unexpected similarities in their own career journeys, making this conversation feel less like an interview and more like two experienced professionals sitting down and talking about the work they genuinely love. What You'll Learn in This Episode In this episode, you'll hear about: Tiffany's journey from occupational therapy to senior careHow she discovered her passion for assisted livingThe evolution of senior placementHer experience working with A Place for MomWhy senior placement requires more than simply knowing communitiesThe realities of helping families during a crisisEntrepreneurship in the senior care industryVeterans benefits and VA application assistanceThe importance of understanding what families truly needWhy relationships matter so much in senior careWhat decades of experience can teach us about aging and caregivingThe Bigger Conversation Finding care for an aging parent can feel overwhelming, especially when a family is making decisions during a crisis. But you don't have to know everything before you ask for help. Sometimes the first step is simply having a conversation with someone who understands. A Place for Seniors is here to have those conversations. Because the choices we make today can shape the quality of care, connection, dignity, and independence our loved ones experience tomorrow. With 34 years of experience in the mortgage industry, Christopher brings an education first approach to helping clients understand their options. In This Episode • What a reverse mortgage actually is • Common misconceptions about reverse mortgages • Why a reverse mortgage does not mean the bank owns your home • How homeowners can access their home equity • The different types of reverse mortgages • How a reverse mortgage line of credit works • When a home equity line of credit may make more sense • How selling a home could factor into senior living decisions • Why understanding your options before making a decision matters • How Christopher helped his own parents reduce financial pressure • Why education should come before making a major financial decision Christopher also explains how he works with families to look at the bigger picture, whether that means staying in the home, accessing equity, refinancing, selling, or considering a move to senior living. Providing the Care Someone Really Needs with Allison Carman

Welcome to A Place for Seniors Podcast,  In this special episode, host Allison Carman shares the deeply personal story that led her into senior care and explains why helping older adults find the right living environment has become her life's mission. Before becoming a senior living expert, Allison built a successful career in engineering and business. But when the 2008 recession unexpectedly changed the direction of her life, it also created an opportunity she never saw coming. It began with her own mother. What first appeared to be simple forgetfulness gradually became something much more serious. Allison found herself stepping into the role so many adult children unexpectedly face becoming the primary caregiver for a parent living with dementia. She candidly shares the emotional challenges that came with caring for her mother at home. The stress. The uncertainty. The guilt. And the heartbreaking realization that love alone is not always enough to provide the care someone truly needs. Like many families, Allison believed bringing her mother home was the right answer. But through that experience, she discovered just how physically and emotionally overwhelming caregiving can become without the right support. That difficult season ultimately introduced her to the world of senior living. What started as helping a friend research care options soon led Allison to a career managing senior communities, where she witnessed something that completely changed her perspective. She watched seniors come back to life. People who had been isolated, struggling, or simply surviving at home began thriving once they had community, purpose, nutritious meals, social interaction, and immediate access to support. Throughout this episode, Allison shares powerful real-life stories from the thousands of families she has helped over the years. She explains why many seniors wait too long before exploring their options and why that delay often leads to unnecessary medical crises, caregiver burnout, and rushed decisions during emergencies. You'll hear remarkable stories of seniors who initially resisted moving into a community only to discover renewed independence, friendships, confidence, and joy after making the transition. Allison also explains why senior living is often misunderstood. Many people assume moving into a community means losing independence. In reality, the right community often gives seniors more independence, more freedom, and a better quality of life than they experienced while living alone. This conversation also explores why planning ahead matters so much. Allison discusses the warning signs families often overlook, the hidden dangers of isolation, the importance of quick emergency response during strokes and falls, and why waiting for a crisis usually limits the best available options. Whether you're beginning to notice changes in an aging parent, considering independent living, assisted living, memory care, or simply wanting to prepare before a crisis occurs, this episode provides valuable insight that every family should hear. Because the best decisions are almost always made before they're urgently needed. At A Place for Seniors, we believe no family should have to navigate senior care alone.
