    "How are they too . . . ?" | Romans 10:5-17 | Pastor Mengsteab

Mengsteab found a giant cardboard foot taped to his office door. On the back were the words "How beautiful are the feet who bring good tidings." In this episode he unpacks the question at the heart of Romans 10: how are they to call on him in whom they have not believed, and how are they to hear without someone preaching? His answer is as personal as it is urgent. Someone has to go for someone to know, and the going begins not in Africa or Asia but right here in Palestine, Texas. This episode draws from Romans 10:5-17, with the appointed readings from Job 38:4-18 and the Holy Gospel from St. Matthew 14:22-33, and the sermon also visits Paul's conversion in Acts 9:1-19, the Great Commission of Matthew 28:19-20, and the great multitude of Revelation 7:9-17. Key themes include evangelism and missions, faith that comes by hearing, the priesthood of all believers, overcoming the fear of rejection, reaching the unchurched, and the promise of a heaven gathered from every nation and language. --- Bethlehem Lutheran Church is a Bible-centered, mission-focused congregation of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS), located in Palestine, Texas. "God's Plan for Our Lives" | Romans 9:1-13 | Pastor Mengsteab

What does it mean to truly belong to God? In this sermon on Romans 9, Pastor Mengsteab follows the Apostle Paul's aching love for his own people and uncovers a startling truth: the true Israel is not defined by bloodline but by faith. Through the surprising story of Jacob and Esau, we see that our place in God's family rests entirely on His grace and His call, never on our own works, and that the same Savior who bore the cross for Paul bears it for us. This episode centers on the Epistle reading, Romans 9:1-13, with the sermon also drawing on Romans 7, Hebrews 11, and the Great Commission of Matthew 28:19-20. The Sunday lectionary readings were the Old Testament from Isaiah 55:1-5, the Epistle from Romans 9:1-13, and the Holy Gospel from Matthew 14:13-21. Along the way the message explores God's election by grace, the difference between the children of the flesh and the children of the promise, a heart of evangelism that presses on despite rejection, the comfort of being declared righteous from the cross, and the assurance that adopts believers of every nation into the Israel of God.
