    PT: CultPod - E12 Platy

🎙️ PT: CultPod Episode 12 – Platy This week, the tables are turned. After spending the last 11 episodes talking with members of the Platypus Technical community, Unassuming and Shroom sit down with the person who’s usually behind the scenes—the founder of PT, Psycho Platy. Instead of talking cultivation techniques or genetics, this episode focuses on the story behind the community itself. We dive into where it all began, what first sparked my interest in mushroom cultivation, the early wins and failures, and how a simple hobby slowly grew into something much bigger than I ever imagined. We also explore the origins of Platypus Technical—why I started it, the values it was built on, the challenges of growing a community, and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. To finish, we look ahead to what’s next for PT, from future projects and ambitions to the vision of continuing to build a welcoming, knowledgeable community for growers of all experience levels. If you’ve ever wondered who’s behind the platypus mask, this is the episode for you. A huge thank you to Unassuming and Shroom for taking over hosting duties and asking the questions that usually never get asked. 🎧 PT: CultPod Episode 12 – Platy is available now. We also talk about how PT has evolved over the years—from a small Reddit community into a thriving group of growers, vendors, educators, and genuinely good people helping one another every day. The conversation explores the challenges of running a community, the unexpected friendships, the responsibility that comes with leadership, and why keeping the culture welcoming has always mattered more than chasing numbers. Finally, we look ahead. The future of PT isn’t just about growing mushrooms. It’s about building better tools for cultivators, expanding education, supporting trusted vendors, developing the PT app, creating resources for growers of every skill level, and continuing to make Platypus Technical a place where people feel comfortable asking questions, sharing knowledge, and enjoying the hobby together. Whether you’ve been here since day one or only discovered PT recently, this episode offers a look behind the curtain at the person who started it all. Thanks to everyone who’s been part of the journey. Without the community, Psycho Platy would just be another weird bloke talking to mushrooms.

PT: Cave Session - E08 Mycelial Madness

Last night’s podcast with Mycelial Madness was an absolute banger! Shroom and I sat down with Antonio, one half of the Mycelial Madness team. Unfortunately, Rusty couldn’t make it due to health reasons, and we all want to send our best wishes for a speedy recovery. No doubt he’ll be joining us on the show soon enough. The conversation was packed from start to finish. We talked about Antonio’s journey into mycology, starting out as a cannabis enthusiast before discovering a passion for fungi. We explored how Mycelial Madness became an absolute powerhouse when it comes to mutants and blob genetics, carving out a unique niche within the community. We also dove into the role psilocybin has played throughout Antonio’s life, discussing everything from microdosing to full psychedelic journeys. We explored how both approaches can offer valuable tools for self-reflection, personal growth, and healing. Then we got into the nitty-gritty cultivation talk. Antonio shared details about his process, how they run their tubs with minimal fresh air exchange and high CO₂ conditions to encourage the mutations they’re known for, along with the grain, substrate, and equipment they use to achieve consistent results. One of the most fascinating parts of the conversation was hearing how Antonio’s graffiti background has influenced the creation of the Mycelial Madness universe. The creativity, style, and artistic vision behind the brand are deeply rooted in that culture and can be seen throughout everything they do. Join Platy and Shroom as they dive deep into blobs, mutants, cultivation techniques, creativity, and the ever-expanding world of Mycelial Madness. This is one episode you won’t want to miss

PT: Cave Sessions - E07 Summer Breaze Mycology

What an absolute cracking episode with Summer Breeze Myco, hosted by Psycho Platy and Shroom. We kicked things off by diving into how Summer Breeze first found his way into mycology, from humble beginnings experimenting at the kitchen sink to becoming a respected cultivator and community member. It was a great reminder that every grower starts somewhere, and often with more curiosity than experience. One of the highlights of the episode was hearing about his favourite mushroom to grow: “JMF. Those little tall bastards are fun to grow.” The conversation expanded beyond cultivation as we explored his passion for photography, a love passed down from his grandad. It was fascinating hearing how photography and mycology intersect, and how mushrooms can inspire creativity in so many different ways. We also discussed the incredible variety within the hobby itself. Mycology isn’t just growing mushrooms—it’s genetics, microscopy, agar work, photography, research, community building, and so much more. There truly is a place for everyone. Living in Australia brings its own challenges, and Summer Breeze shared some valuable insights into managing cultivation through fluctuating temperatures and harsh conditions. His practical advice for newer growers was simple but important: stay patient, keep learning, and don’t be discouraged by setbacks. The episode also touched on one of his proudest cultivation moments—running a successful grow alongside Bluey V’s after experimenting and adjusting his ratios. It was a great example of how small refinements and persistence can lead to impressive results. Whether you’re brand new to mycology or have years of experience under your belt, this episode is packed with relatable stories, useful advice, and a genuine passion for the craft. A huge thank you to Summer Breeze Myco for joining us and sharing his journey. 🍄 See you all in the next episode
