Radio LP4 is a sleep story podcast set aboard a space station at the edge of the solar system. Every night, DJ Gray — LP4's resident librarian — opens a box from the archive and reads the story that came with it. A cassette tape made for a friend before a long drive. A letter kept for forty years. A photograph found in the strangest of circumstances. Objects sent to LP4 by people who needed them to be somewhere safe. Gray reads their stories to the crews and colonists living far from Earth, for whom a calm voice in the dark is the closest thing to home. Each episode ends with the sound of the station itself — left open, holding watch, while you sleep.

    Radio LP4 — The Mixtape — For the Drive, Summer 1987

    In the first episode, Gray opens a box wrapped in gold gift paper and finds a Maxell UD 90 cassette tape, labelled in blue ballpoint: For the drive. Summer 1987. Tucked inside is a letter from a woman named Claire, writing from Melbourne. She made the tape for her best friend Ro before a coast to coast drive across Australia in a barely roadworthy Holden Kingswood. What she built into it — song by song, over two nights — and what Ro did with the two minutes of silence near the end of Side B, is tonight's story.
