Shop Thrift Dive market! They highlight why Old Garden Beach is a top shore diving destination, especially for lobster diving. The site is known for abundant marine life including lobsters, flounder, crabs, pollock, sculpin, sand dollars, and even occasional puffer fish. Tawny explains that the entry is relatively easy, thanks to a boardwalk leading to a sandy shoreline, though there are some rocks to navigate—especially at low tide. Visibility is often good, and swimming out before descending is recommended to reach deeper rocky areas and kelp beds where marine life is more concentrated. The conversation also covers: Depth variations depending on direction (deeper toward the north, shallower toward the “green can”).Lobstering essentials: a mesh catch bag, lobster gauge for legal sizing, gloves, and proper dive gear. The importance of following Massachusetts lobster regulations.Typical recreational dive gear is sufficient—no specialized equipment required.Beyond diving, Old Garden Beach is praised for being family-friendly. It offers free access, a beach area for non-divers, nearby facilities, and close proximity to Bearskin Neck for dining and shopping—making it a great full-day destination. The episode wraps with a lighthearted discussion about favorite lobster recipes (classic boiled lobster with butter and lobster rolls) and a bit about Tawny’s diving background. Overall, the episode provides a practical and personal overview of Old Garden Beach as an accessible, rewarding shore dive spot in Massachusetts.
