On this day, festival floats marched through the Satoyama hills, filling the air with traditional festival music (matsuri-bayashi).You’ll hear the sounds of flutes and drums fading in and out, drawing closer and then moving away again. In between, the recording captures the passing of cars, birds chirping, insects buzzing, my dogs barking, and the faint voices of people in the distance. Around 28:00 – You’ll hear my dogs barking. We were waiting in the twilight garden to watch the festival floats pass by when it seemed like a wild animal wandered near the yard, causing the dogs to start barking.Around 31:00 – A deer’s cry is caught on mic. It felt like one was wandering around nearby.note: https://note.com/awaawa_life (Behind-the-scenes stories and photos)Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/awaawa_life/X: https://x.com/gogosaharaPlease enjoy this as background noise while working, studying, or just relaxing.[About the Show & Host]Living in a traditional old folk house (kominka) nestled in the countryside, I share the natural and daily life sounds of the rich environment in Minamiboso.

Cooking New Rice Over a Wood Fire I cook over a wood fire in the earthen-floored kitchen of my old Japanese farmhouse. The wild boars destroyed our entire little rice paddy, but I was lucky enough to receive some freshly harvested rice! So I wasted no time and cooked it in a traditional Japanese pot called a hagama. I recorded the sounds along the way. Behind the crackling flames and popping firewood, you can also hear the sounds of me washing dishes. At around 9 minutes, there's a little lid-opening moment. I just love the bubbling sound of the rice cooking! There's another lid-opening moment at around 13:30. About the Podcast I live in an old Japanese farmhouse surrounded by the beautiful satoyama landscape of Minamiboso, Chiba, Japan. Here, I share the sounds of nature and everyday life. Sometimes, I also talk about rural life as a woman in my 50s living on her own with her dogs, after moving from the city to the countryside.

I visited the EISUKE SOMEKAWA Exhibition – Boso Edition: Eternal Prayers, currently on view at the Nokogiri Museum of Art in Kanaya, Futtsu City, Chiba Prefecture. As part of a museum concert titled “Prayers Through Eternity: Buddhist Chanting Echoing Through a Mandala Space,” I experienced shōmyō (traditional Buddhist chanting) for the very first time. A large mandala painting stood before us, while Buddhist monks from the Shingon Hōkyōkai surrounded the audience, filling the space with their sacred chants. I was immersed in the vibrations, feeling the sound resonate throughout my entire body. At times, the enormous mandala in front of me seemed to take on a three-dimensional form. I simply let myself enjoy the moment with my whole being, bathing in a shower of Buddhist chants. It felt absolutely wonderful, and I left wanting to experience it all over again! In this episode, I share a short excerpt of the chanting from that day and talk about the time I spent at the museum and in Kanaya. About the Podcast & Host Living in a traditional Japanese farmhouse in the countryside, I share the sounds of nature and everyday life in the beautiful Awa region of southern Chiba, Japan.

After several episodes featuring the sounds of local festivals, this time I’m sharing the sounds of nature from my garden. This morning, I woke up to the sweet sound of a bird singing. You can hear that bird right at the beginning of the episode. When I took my dogs for a walk around the garden, I spotted birds in the trees along the river. So after coming back home, I grabbed my camera and voice recorder and headed back outside. It happens all the time: whenever I don’t have my camera with me, I seem to encounter birds everywhere. But when I go out carrying a camera with a telephoto lens, they somehow disappear. The river had settled down too, flowing gently and making a lovely sound. At around 8:15, you can hear the high-pitched call of a deer in the distance. So, here are some of the sounds from my garden this morning.
