The Hands That Held Us First

THE HANDS THAT HELD US FIRSTTales of Faith by the Sea | Week 19 — Monday Verse of the Day Before a sailor ever faced the fury of the Atlantic, before his weathered hands gripped the helm, before he learned to navigate by the stars—there were two hands that held him first. A mother's hands. Picture a little white cottage overlooking a mist-covered New England harbor. The dawn has scarcely awakened. A lantern flickers beside an open Bible, and there, upon her knees, a devout mother whispers the names of her children before the throne of God. She may never command a mighty vessel, conquer a raging sea, or have her name engraved upon the monuments of men. But within the quiet walls of her home, she is helping shape a soul for eternity. Her prayers rise where her hands cannot reach. Her example speaks when her voice grows silent. And the Scriptures she faithfully teaches become a light her children may carry long after she has gone. Years will pass. The little boy will become a man. The Atlantic will thunder beneath his feet, and the winds will howl like a thousand angry voices. Yet amid the tempest, he may remember something stronger than the storm. A mother's faith. A mother's prayers. A mother's Bible. In today's Tales of Faith by the Sea, we turn to Proverbs 31:28 (NASB95): “Her children rise up and bless her; Her husband also, and he praises her...” Consider the immeasurable influence of a God-fearing mother whose greatest ambition is not merely to raise successful children, but to teach them to know, love, and obey the Lord. The world remembers great captains and mighty ships. Heaven knows the worth of faithful women whose quiet devotion helps prepare souls for life's fiercest storms. For a mother's hands may steady the cradle, but her godly influence can help steady the soul. And when those hands grow frail, when her voice is heard no more, and when the little house beside the harbor has faded into memory... THE HANDS THAT HELD US FIRST MAY ONE DAY LET GO—BUT THE GOD SHE TAUGHT US TO TRUST WILL NEVER CEASE TO BE FAITHFUL! The Bible our chart. Christ our Captain. Heaven our harbor. Safe sailing, friends.
