NO COLLUSION: How William Barr Rewrote the Mueller Story Before America Could Read It

How did Robert Mueller’s narrow finding that investigators did not establish a criminal Trump-Russia conspiracy become the sweeping claim that the entire Russia investigation was a hoax? This Brain Candy episode follows William Barr from the Iran-Contra pardons through his unsolicited 2018 obstruction memo and the extraordinary March–April 2019 rollout of the Mueller Report. We examine the Trump Tower meeting, Manafort and Kilimnik, Papadopoulos and the origins of Crossfire Hurricane, Mueller’s obstruction findings, later federal court criticism of Barr, and the Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee investigation. We also confront the strongest objections to the Russia investigation: the serious Carter Page/FISA failures documented by Inspector General Michael Horowitz and John Durham’s later criticisms of FBI analytical rigor. Those failures matter—but they do not erase the separately documented Russian interference operation or the factual record assembled by Mueller and Senate Intelligence. Finally, we look at the modern version of narrative preemption: AI-generated answers, search summaries and algorithmic feeds that can turn loaded questions and selective sourcing into authoritative-sounding confirmation bias—motivated reasoning that feels researched.
