The Subpar Psychologist

The Subpar Psychologist (Steve Miller, PsyD.)

Nobody asked for another psychology podcast, but here we are. I'm a licensed psychologist in Oregon with a doctorate and a genuine belief that pretending to have it all figured out doesn't help anybody. This show involves mental health education grounded in research, honest conversations about messy topics, and the occasional tangent. Topics include depression, anxiety, trauma, masculinity, dissociation, suicide prevention, and mindfulness — with more to come. This podcast is for educational purposes only and does not constitute psychological advice or a therapeutic relationship. The Subpar Psychologist | The Mental Health Stuff

Why should you care about mental health? For the same reason you would care about physical health. Because the mind/body connection is more than some new-age psychobabble, it's a two-way street of experience and consequence. One can affect the other. In this episode, I break down connections between mental and physical health. Next, I discuss some barriers that I've noticed that may keep someone from seeking out a therapist. From there, I offer some tips on how to find a mental health clinician and get the most out of your time with them. I also give some basic background to the various mental health professionals one could seek out if they needed help. All of this I serve up with some experience, education, and a few cringe-worthy cheesy moments that I didn't have time to edit out. Enjoy! 🎓 Credentials: B.S. Human Development | M.S. The Subpar Psychologist | The Introduction

Nobody asked for another psychology podcast, but here we are. My name is Dr. Steve Miller and I am The Subpar Psychologist. Why that name? Because perfectionism is overrated, imposter syndrome is real, and pretending otherwise helps nobody. This video is simple, and it exists to answer a few questions: Who am I? What am I doing? And holy crap, why am I doing this? On this channel: mental health education grounded in research, honest conversations about messy topics, and the occasional tangent and some humor sprinkled in. Topics to be discussed: depression, anxiety, trauma, masculinity, dissociation, suicide prevention, and mindfulness — with more to come.If you are hoping for a fully polished podcast with an all-knowing host...this is not the show you are looking for. If you're into real talk hosted by a flawed human who just happens to have a doctorate in psychology — stick around. 🎓 Credentials: B.S. Human Development | M.S. Counseling | M.S. & Psy.D.
