The Field: A Dojo of Sound

Glenn Ostlund

The Field is a portable pause for people who have forgotten how to stop. Part podcast, part meditation space, part ongoing conversation, The Field is an experiment in what happens when thoughtful dialogue is placed inside a carefully designed auditory environment. Through immersive binaural soundscapes, authentic voice messages, and the exploration of ideas that matter, we practice learning out loud. Different minds meet, perspectives unfold, and meaning emerges. At the heart of this project is the concept of a dojo of sound. Traditionally, a dojo is a place of practice—not a place where one arrives as an expert, but a place where people gather to develop awareness, discipline, and skill over time. The dojo of sound is an auditory version of that idea: a carefully crafted listening environment designed to support reflection, contemplation, curiosity, and personal growth. The soundscapes throughout The Field incorporate binaural beats, which are created when slightly different frequencies are presented to each ear through headphones. The brain perceives the difference between these frequencies as a rhythmic pulse. While research on binaural beats continues to evolve, many listeners report that they help create conditions conducive to relaxation, focused attention, meditation, creative thinking, and improved sleep. The sound design of The Field draws upon these principles to create an atmosphere that may, over time, help reduce symptoms associated with stress, anxiety, mental fatigue, and distraction while supporting focus, self-awareness, and emotional regulation. The goal is not to diagnose, treat, or cure. Rather, it is to create conditions that invite reflection. Most episodes are built from voice messages exchanged between friends, colleagues, seekers, creators, therapists, philosophers, scientists, mystics, and everyday people wrestling with life’s biggest questions. These conversations are intentionally left conversational and exploratory. Rather than presenting certainty, they model curiosity. Rather than delivering answers, they invite participation. This is where the second meaning of the title emerges. The Field refers to the shared space that appears whenever people gather around common values, questions, and aspirations. It is the invisible relational space between individuals where ideas cross-pollinate, insights emerge, and understanding deepens. Some may think of it as community. Others may think of it as collective intelligence, group consciousness, dialogue, or simply friendship. Whatever language you prefer, The Field is interested in what happens when human beings come together to explore reality with openness, humility, and wonder. Whether you participate as a contributor or a listener, you become part of that field. So put on your headphones. Take a breath. Slow down for a while. Let the sounds settle around you and the conversations settle within you. Join us in the ongoing experiment of neuroconvergence, shared inquiry, and conscious reflection. Welcome to The Field.

Service to Other vs. Service to Self: A Playful Examination of Eckhart Tolle, Deepak Chopra and Joseph Smith

What happens when a spiritual teaching moves through personality, money, sexuality, celebrity, institutional power, and the human desire to become somebody? In this episode of The Field: A Dojo of Sound, we view Eckhart Tolle, Deepak Chopra, Joseph Smith, and the religious movements surrounding them through the metaphysical vocabulary of The Ra Contact. Using the Law of One’s distinction between service to others and service to self, we explore how teachings of unity can encourage compassion, freedom, and direct spiritual experience—while also becoming entangled with wealth, hierarchy, prestige, authority, and control. Why does Tolle’s teaching tend to dismantle the seeker’s need to become extraordinary? How can spirituality turn ambition into spiritualized ambition? What happens when Joseph Smith’s radically expansive vision of human divinity becomes an institution organized around priesthood keys and exclusive authority? And how might a scale created to judge spiritual teachers quietly become another source of ego and superiority? The percentages offered in this episode are a playful interpretive device, not measurements found in The Ra Contact. The deeper question is personal: Does a teaching increase compassion without weakening discernment? Does it strengthen boundaries without creating contempt? Does it make authority more necessary—or leave us increasingly free to be present as nobody in particular?

The Hidden Science of Getting Stuck: Why Procrastination Isn't Laziness

The Hidden Science of Getting Stuck: Why Procrastination Isn't Laziness Why do you find yourself avoiding the very things that matter most? In this immersive 6Hz theta binaural meditation, we explore the hidden science behind procrastination, avoidance, and feeling stuck. Rather than viewing laziness as a personal failing, this episode reveals how your nervous system, brain, and emotional history work together to protect you from perceived threats—even when those threats exist only in anticipation. Drawing from modern neuroscience, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), you'll discover why procrastination is fundamentally an emotion regulation strategy, how protective parts of the mind attempt to shield you from discomfort, and why self-compassion is often more effective than self-discipline. As the 6Hz theta binaural beats guide you into a deeply relaxed, receptive state, you'll learn practical ways to: Understand the biological roots of procrastination and avoidance.Recognize the difference between genuine rest and protective hiding.Create distance from anxious thoughts without fighting them.Work with your nervous system instead of against it.Take meaningful, values-based action—even when fear is present. This isn't a productivity hack. It's an invitation to understand yourself more deeply. The part of you that's keeping you stuck isn't broken or lazy. It's trying to protect you using strategies that may have once been necessary but no longer serve your life today. When you meet those protective patterns with curiosity instead of criticism, new possibilities begin to emerge. Headphones are required to experience the full effect of the 6Hz theta binaural beats. Take a breath. Enter the dojo. Let the sound reveal what has always been beneath the struggle. Namaste.
