Sandrin sat down with Raymond Loretan, President of the Fondation du Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), often called the “Oscars of Watchmaking,” to discuss what goes into organizing such a landmark event. The GPHG ceremony takes place at the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices in Geneva this November 7th, where the year’s finest timepieces are celebrated and brands are honored for excellence across multiple categories. This 26th edition introduces three new categories: Essential Watch, Complication Watch and Gemset. They replace the former Men’s and Ladies’ categories and bring a fresh, more technical perspective to the evening. Not to mention that the event is presenting a new President at the Jury: Mr. Wei Koh, a passionate enthusiast and expert from this industry. Expect a night full of surprises and remarkable watches.     What Makes the Hublot Unico Movement Different

    Most watches keep the movement tucked away behind a solid caseback. Hublot does the opposite. The Hublot Unico movement is built to be looked at, and that choice shapes the entire Big Bang line. Instead of asking you to trust what’s happening inside, the design puts the mechanics in plain view and turns them into part of the watch’s identity. The column wheel at six o’clock, the component that coordinates the chronograph, becomes part of the visual composition. Between seven and eight o’clock, the double oscillating clutch does its work right in front of you, engineering that normally stays out of sight. The idea reaches its fullest expression in the 42mm Big Bang Unico Sapphire, where the movement sits entirely behind sapphire and the watch becomes a three-dimensional view of pure horology. Together, these details change what it means to wear a luxury chronograph. The movement stops being a secret and becomes the reason you keep looking. The conversation began with a visit to Hublot’s pop-up store at Yorkdale, where seeing the watches up close made the brand’s thinking easy to grasp.
