S1E11 | Texas — Don't Mess with the Dead: A Haunted Road Trip

Texas — Don't Mess with the Dead: A Haunted Road TripEverything's bigger in Texas—including the ghost stories! This week on Spirits with Spirits, JB and Ariel are heading to the Lone Star State for a haunted road trip filled with phantom riders, mysterious lights, haunted taverns, restless spirits, and a few things that probably shouldn't be wandering the highways after dark. Our journey begins in the Franklin Mountains near El Paso, where legend tells of a ghostly monk wandering with his donkey. Yes, somehow we've found another ghost donkey! Then we're off to the Devil's Backbone, where travelers have reported spectral horsemen, a crying woman carrying her baby, and strange encounters along the winding Texas roads. We also stop at the legendary Devil's Backbone Tavern, where photographs reportedly fly off walls, jukeboxes play by themselves, and the resident spirits don't always observe closing time. But things get even stranger when we reach Demon's Road and Martha Chapel Cemetery. Imagine driving down a dark road and encountering a little boy riding a squeaky tricycle—with glowing red eyes. Or visiting a cemetery where something reportedly reaches out of the ground to grab unsuspecting visitors. And whatever you do, don't bring anything home with you. Our haunted road trip continues with the mysterious Saratoga Lights along Bragg Road and the restless spirits of Stagecoach Road. 🥃 SPOOKY SIPS This week we're going big with Whitmeyer's Texas Single Malt Whiskey, a barrel-proof, uncut and unfiltered single-barrel selection acquired through a whiskey trade with our friend Clint. We explore what makes American single malt different, how the Texas climate influences whiskey aging, and whether this particular barrel lives up to its Lone Star reputation. Along the way, JB somehow reveals a story about hitting a horse with a car that Ariel has never heard before, and an innocent discussion of folklore turns into a ridiculous conversation about forks. It's Texas history, roadside hauntings, whiskey, and the usual nonsense you've come to expect from us. 🎃 COMING UP: OUR BONUS HALLOWEEN EPISODE! We're celebrating Halloween with an extra episode this month. Stay tuned for more spooky stories and spirits! Pour yourself something good, turn down the lights, and join us as we discover why you should never mess with Texas—or the dead.
