    010. You Don't Have 10 Things Wrong With You. You Have ONE Root Cause. - with Dr. Emily

What if every single symptom you've been trying to fix separately… is actually just one thing? You're taking supplements for energy. Seeing a therapist for anxiety. Doing pelvic floor exercises for the leaking. Taking magnesium for the sleep. Trying to eat better for the bloating. Googling your hair loss at 2am. And somehow — nothing is actually working. You don't have 10 problems. You have one root cause that is creating all of them — and almost no one is talking about it. As a pelvic health physical therapist, I've sat across from hundreds of postpartum moms who come in with a laundry list of symptoms, a cabinet full of supplements, and a roster of providers… who are all treating individual branches of the same tree while the roots are completely ignored. That root cause? Sympathetic dominance. After having a baby, most moms' nervous systems never fully come down from the state of high alert that pregnancy, labor, delivery, and newborn survival mode demands. Your body's internal alarm system gets stuck — blaring at full volume — convinced you are still in danger. And when that alarm won't shut off, your entire body pays the price: 🔴 Your pelvic floor stays braced and dysfunctional 🔴 Your hormones can't regulate properly 🔴 Your digestion slows or becomes erratic 🔴 Your sleep stays broken — even when the baby sleeps through the night 🔴 Your mood swings feel completely out of your control 🔴 Your hair falls out 🔴 Your libido disappears 🔴 Your energy is gone no matter how much you rest 🔴 Your anxiety won't quiet down 🔴 Your body feels like it belongs to a stranger These are not 10 different problems requiring 10 different solutions. These are 10 different smoke alarms going off because there is one fire — and no one is putting it out. The wellness industry has made a fortune convincing you to treat each symptom individually. Another supplement. Another specialist. Another program. Another thing to add to the impossible mental load you're already carrying. But here's the truth: until you address the nervous system first, nothing else will fully work — or fully stick. This is Step 1 of my evidence-based methodology for postpartum healing — and in this episode, I'm breaking down exactly what sympathetic dominance is, why it happens to almost every postpartum mom, how to recognize it in your own body, and why it is the missing piece that every other provider, influencer, and wellness program is skipping straight over. Because you don't need more things to do. You need the right thing — done first. 🎯 Ready to stop treating symptoms and start healing the root? 009. Stop Strengthening Your Pelvic Floor Until You Hear This - with Dr. Emily

What if the reason you're still struggling postpartum has nothing to do with how weak your pelvic floor is? As a pelvic health physical therapist, I'm going to say something that might surprise you — and honestly, might make some of my colleagues uncomfortable: For most postpartum moms, strengthening exercises are not step one. They're not even step two. Here's what the science actually says: After having a baby, most moms' nervous systems get stuck in sympathetic dominance — essentially, your body's alarm system is blaring at full volume 24/7. Your brain and body genuinely believe you are in a constant state of threat. And when that alarm won't turn off, everything breaks down. We're talking: 🔴 Pelvic floor dysfunction (leaking, prolapse, pain) 🔴 Sleep disturbances — even when the baby sleeps 🔴 Hormonal chaos 🔴 Digestive issues 🔴 Mood swings and anxiety 🔴 Feeling like a stranger in your own body And what does the wellness world tell you to do? Do more kegels. Do a core program. Push through it. That is a bandaid on a wound that needs surgery. This week, I'm pulling back the curtain on my evidence-based 4-step approach that actually heals postpartum moms — not for a month, but for the next 20+ years of their life: Step 1: Calm the nervous system first — because you cannot heal a body that thinks it's still in danger. Step 2: Nourish and restore the body in that calm state — nutrition, minerals, vitamins, mobility — building the foundation. Step 3: Strengthen — now the body can actually receive and adapt to that stimulus correctly. (This is the only step everyone else skips to.) Step 4: Challenge and condition — so that when the holidays hit, when life gets hard, when stress spikes, your body has the resilience to hold it together long-term. You deserve more than temporary relief. You deserve your body — and your life — back. 🎯 Ready to go deeper?
