    In Practice | Day 12

What part of this is mine? Sometimes we have a say in what happens without having control over it. And sometimes knowing our part means recognizing where our responsibility ends. In Day 12 of I Am Here in Practice, I talk about the choices that belong to us, the ones that don’t, and what I’ve learned about participating in my own life without believing I have to carry all of it. Because doing my part isn’t the same as doing everything possible. In Practice | Day 11

Not every practice we try is going to be something we want to keep. And sometimes something surprisingly simple turns out to be the thing that stays with us. In this episode, I reflect on some of the practices I’ve tried over the years, some that worked for me, some that didn’t, and what happened when I stopped thinking I had to make every one of them work. One of the things that stayed was humming. There’s something about feeling sound move through the body that I enjoy. It doesn’t require me to figure anything out or even have the right words. I can simply make a sound and feel what happens. Maybe that’s part of learning how to support ourselves too. We can try things. Notice our own experience. Keep what helps. And leave the rest. In Practice | Day 10

We can become very good at noticing what we need and still struggle to respond to it. In this episode of I Am Here in Practice, I talk about the question that helped begin You Are Here: how could I know so much about what I needed and still have such a hard time acting on what I knew? We explore the difference between noticing and responding, what it means to let what we know about ourselves become part of what we do next, and why responding doesn’t have to mean fixing everything. Sometimes it simply means letting what we’ve noticed matter. music created with AIVA #IAmHereInPractice #YouAreHere #WithinReach #SelfAwareness #SelfCare #ListeningToYourself #PersonalGrowth #LivingWithChange #MindfulLiving #ChronicIllness This is a public episode. In Practice | Day 9

Day 9 — The Brief Reset Sometimes taking care of ourselves can feel like one more thing we have to find time for. In this episode, I reflect on what changed when I stopped assuming that something had to take a lot of time to be worth doing. A stretch while standing in line. A fuller breath. A few seconds to let the body release some of what it has been carrying. These small moments aren’t meant to fix the whole day. They don’t have to. Sometimes care can happen right in the middle of the life we’re already living. We haven’t stopped the story of the day. We’ve simply put a comma in it. In Practice | Day 8

Sometimes the things we do to help ourselves can quietly become another thing we think we should be doing right. In this episode, I reflect on my relationship with meditation, what changed when something I loved began to feel more like an assignment. We also explore something the body already knows how to do: release, sigh, exhale, as something we can experience right where we are. Because care doesn’t always require stepping away from your life. Your body came with you. I Am Here in Practice is a companion podcast to You Are Here: A Daily Companion for Living Inside Change. In Practice | Day 7

Today, I’m joined by my co-host, Lil Bit, who contributes a little commentary and quite a bit of purring. Apparently, she had thoughts too. ) The things we say to ourselves repeatedly can become familiar enough to feel true. But familiarity can work in another direction too. In this episode, I reflect on what can happen when we choose one kind, believable sentence and return to it. Not to convince ourselves of something we don’t believe, but to give another way of speaking to ourselves the chance to become familiar. For me, one of those sentences is, “I don’t have to figure this out right now.” It doesn’t mean I won’t look for an answer. It reminds me that I don’t always have to have one immediately. Sometimes kindness becomes something we recognize because we’ve practiced returning to it. In Practice | Day 6

We hear our own voice more than any other. Over time, the way we speak to ourselves can become so familiar that we barely notice its tone or the weight it carries. In this episode, I reflect on what happens when we begin listening not only to what we’re saying to ourselves, but to how we’re saying it. We explore the difference between kindness and forced positivity, why a believable sentence can matter more than a perfect one, and how the language we use with ourselves becomes part of the relationship we build within. You don’t have to change every thought. Sometimes it begins by letting another voice have a place too. Alphabet Soup

What happens when years of symptoms, diagnoses, questions, and uncertainty suddenly remind you of a can of alphabet soup? ) Lots of fun stuff! In this episode, I reflect on the strange experience of living with symptoms that move, change, disappear, and return and what it can mean to finally receive a diagnosis when there are still unanswered questions. But this isn’t only about what’s hard. It’s also about the unexpected moment when two little words made me laugh, brought back a childhood memory, and made something heavy feel a little lighter. Maybe joy doesn’t have to wait until we’ve figured everything out. Sometimes it finds us right in the middle of the soup. #AlphabetSoup #ChronicIllness #Fibromyalgia #Invisibleman #ChronicSymptoms #LivingWithUncertainty #SelfTrust #FindingJoy #YouAreHere #IAmHereInPractice Music created with AIVA This is a public episode.
