WE ROCK — The Earth Sciences Media. Where Earth Sciences Meet Society. Geology is everywhere — in the water you drink, in your phone, in the disasters that make the headlines. Yet geoscientists remain invisible. We make Earth Sciences accessible to everyone. Every episode, we sit down with geoscientists — geologists, volcanologists, geophysicists, hydrogeologists, geochemists and more — for honest, unfiltered conversations about their work, their journey and why it matters to all of us.

THE HEAT UNDER GENEVA — MICHEL MEYER | GEOCAREERS EP08

From pebbles to geothermal energy: Michel Meyer, Director of Thermal & Geothermal Solutions at SIG (Geneva), tells how a geologist became Cantonal Geologist, then led the GeoThermie2020 programme. We discuss PhD choices, working in public administration, social acceptance of geothermal energy, mountains buried under Geneva, and why geologists are “composite people”. 🌍 Full episode on YouTube and all podcast platforms. REWILDING BEYOND THE DINOSAURS — LIONEL CAVIN | GEOCAREERS EP07

Palaeontologist and museum curator Lionel Cavin explains why a coelacanth is closer to you than a trout is — and why rewilding isn't really about dinosaurs at all.Lionel Cavin | Palaeontologist | Curator, Muséum d'histoire naturelle de la Ville de Genève━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━In this seventh episode of WE ROCK GeoCareers, I sit down with Lionel Cavin, curator of the Geology and Palaeontology department at Geneva's Natural History Museum. His path: a childhood passion for dinosaurs, a PhD on fossil fish in Morocco, a period on unemployment, postdocs in Thailand and at the Natural History Museum in London, fieldwork in Lebanon, and now, for nearly two decades, curating one of Switzerland's major fossil collections — while training a new generation of palaeontologists in Thailand.

He wasn't the best student — until the subjects got interesting. Then came a degree in palaeontology, a stint on unemployment, and a career built on patience in a field where positions are scarce. Lionel Cavin, palaeontologist and curator at the Natural History Museum of Geneva, explains why coelacanths are closer to us than a trout is — and why rewilding isn't really about dinosaurs at all. NEPAL AGAINST EARTHQUAKES — GYÖRGY HETÉNY | GEOCAREERS EP. 06

From an orienteering club to imaging the deep structure of the Alps and the Himalaya, György Hetényi, professor of geophysics at the University of Lausanne, shares a career built on curiosity rather than a plan. A conversation on large-scale seismic imaging, why predicting earthquakes isn't the same as forecasting them, and a project born after the 2015 Nepal earthquake: training teachers and installing seismometers in schools to prepare children for the next big one. Where Earth Sciences Meet Society.

    Trailer Episode 6.— György Hetényi

Before the Alps, before the Himalaya, there was an orienteering club — and a question that follows him still: "Would the teenager you were be proud of the adult you've become?" György Hetényi, professor of geophysics at the University of Lausanne, has spent his career imaging what lies beneath mountain belts — and after the devastating 2015 Nepal earthquake, one of his students turned that science into something else: seismometers in classrooms, teachers trained to prepare children for the next big one.
