Scrubs to Startups Stories of clinicians who build businesses beyond the bedside. Most entrepreneurs have never had to ask permission from a licensing board to start a business. Most founders have never walked away from a career they spent a decade training for. Most business podcasts were not built for you. Scrubs to Startups is hosted by the team behind All-Stars Surgical Assist, a multi-state surgical staffing company built by clinicians who understood the gaps in the OR better than anyone sitting in a boardroom. We did not come from venture capital. We came from the scrub sink. This show exists for the PA, the NP, the surgeon, the CRNA, the PT, and every other clinician who has looked around at their career and thought: there has to be something more. Something I own. Something I built. Every episode goes deep on the real friction of building a healthcare business as a clinician: navigating licensure across state lines, managing the identity shift from provider to entrepreneur, understanding reimbursement and revenue models that most MBAs have never encountered, and building companies inside an industry that was not designed to make it easy. The stories are honest. The conversations cover money, failure, regulation, burnout, and what it actually takes to build something that lasts. If you work in healthcare and have ever thought about starting a business, consulting independently, launching a practice, or simply creating income outside of clinical work, this show was made for you. Topics covered on Scrubs to Startups include: physician entrepreneurship, clinician burnout and career transitions, healthcare startups, surgical staffing, medical practice ownership, PA and NP business ownership, healthcare consulting, medical licensing and credentialing, health tech entrepreneurship, independent contractor healthcare, surgical first assist business, reimbursement strategy, multi-state healthcare compliance, building a brand as a clinician, and founder stories from medicine. Your Host: Dan Payson Dan Payson is the CEO of All-Stars Surgical Assist, the national surgical staffing company built to support surgical first assistants across the country. His career spans over a decade at the intersection of clinical care and business -- from clinical neurophysiology and neuromodulation at Medtronic, to spine sales at NuVasive, to founding Payson Partners, a healthcare management and growth consulting firm. Dan has spent his career inside the OR and in the boardroom, which makes him the rare host who speaks both languages fluently. Scrubs to Startups | From Neurosurgery PA to Wellness Founder: Michelle Dellene's Journey

Most clinicians spend years mastering what happens inside the OR. Few talk about what's possible outside of it. Scrubs to Startups is a podcast for surgical professionals who are building something beyond the bedside -- a business, a brand, a movement, or a new chapter entirely. Each episode is a candid conversation with a clinician who made the leap: what drove them there, what the hard part actually looked like, and what they know now that they wish they'd known sooner. Our Guest Michelle Dellene, Michelle Dellene, PA-C -- Florida-based neurosurgery PA, president of the American Academy of Surgical PAs (ASPA), and founder of Detox to Heal. Michelle's story starts in trauma neurosurgery and takes a turn most clinicians never see coming: a 2020 MS diagnosis that doctors said should have ended her career. Instead of stepping away from medicine, she turned to yoga, transcendental meditation, and an anti-inflammatory protocol rooted in Eastern medicine, and put her MS into remission within eight months. She took everything she learned and built Detox to Heal, a coaching and wellness business helping healthcare providers manage burnout and reclaim their health through online courses, one-on-one coaching, and international wellness retreats. She's also the current president of ASPA, where she leads efforts around surgical CME and advocacy for the PA profession in the OR. https://www.michelledellene.com/ New episodes drop monthly.
