I Am Afi G: What We Carry

Coach Afi G / Spirit of Ashe LLC

I Am Afi G: What We Carry is a podcast about the things passed down through blood, silence, and survival — and what it takes to transform them. Hosted by Coach Afi G, Spiritual Life Coach and Ancestral Healing Practitioner, each episode moves through the intersections of intergenerational trauma, emotional shadow work, ancestral healing, and lineage narrative — drawing from Afro-Diasporic spiritual traditions, epigenetics, and over time 30 years of healing practice. This is a space for Black, Afro-Diasporic, and Latino/Latine communities — and for anyone who has ever felt the weight of what their family couldn't say out loud. Whether you're beginning your healing journey or deepening a practice you've carried for years, you'll find here what most spaces don't offer: a conversation that honors both your wounds and your lineage with equal reverence. What your ancestors couldn't finish — you can. New episodes every two weeks. Subscribe and come home to your lineage. Reclaiming Cultural Identity as a Healing Act

Send us Fan Mail What if reclaiming who you come from is one of the most powerful healing acts available to you? In this episode — the opening of the season's final movement — Coach Afi G explores cultural identity not as nostalgia, but as medicine. Moving beyond the surface of food and festivity, he speaks to the deeper inheritance that lives in the blood itself, and why so many of us feel a quiet incompleteness we can never quite name. This is a conversation about coming home. Coach Afi G speaks to the ones who feel locked out of their own heritage — not "enough" of where they come from — and offers both a fierce reassurance and a necessary distinction between reclaiming cultural belonging and honoring the sacred traditions that must be guided by elders. He widens the circle to all whose origins colonization tried to sever, and names why this anchoring matters for our mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. For everyone whose longing to return has been mistaken for not belonging — this one is for you. A note on depth: this episode names and illuminates the healing power of cultural reclamation. The deeper, guided work belongs inside the Shadow & Lineage Healing Circle. — — — Learn more about Afi G's work, the Healing Circle, and how to begin your own journey: https://www.coachafig.com/the-shadow-lineage ✦ THIS YEAR'S SHADOW WORK RETREAT ✦ Space is limited. The Mother Wound & The Father Wound in the Lineage

Send us Fan Mail What if the wounds we trace back to our mother and father were never fully theirs to begin with? In this episode, Coach Afi G explores two of the most primal forces that shape every human life: the mother principle and the father principle. Rather than treating them as simply the people who raised us, he approaches them as energies we each carry within: one that governs our sense of safety, center, and the capacity to love; the other that governs our sense of direction, footing, and reassurance in the world. Afi G opens up about his own experience being raised in a single-parent home, and moves through vivid examples of how these wounds quietly shape adult lives: from the difficulty of feeling safe, to the struggle to feel sure. But the heart of this episode is a challenging and compassionate reframe: the invitation to widen the lens beyond blame, to understand the histories that shaped our parents, and to recognize the ancestral pattern seeking to be healed in our own lifetime. This is a conversation about responsibility rather than condemnation, and about what becomes possible when we understand ourselves not as those chosen by the wound to suffer, but as those positioned by the lineage to heal. A note on depth: this episode names and illuminates these wounds. The deep, guided healing of them is the work Afi G leads inside the Shadow & Lineage Healing Circle. — — — Learn more about Coach Afi G's work, the Healing Circle, and how to begin your own journey: https://www.coachafig.com/the-shadow-lineage ✦ THIS YEAR'S SHADOW WORK RETREAT ✦ Space is limited. What the Body Remembers When the Mind Forgets

Send us Fan Mail You've done the work. You've read the books, said the affirmations, sat in the therapy, learned to talk yourself down off the ledge. So why does the wound still not move? In this episode — the opening of Movement Two of Season One — Coach Afi G reveals the answer that changes everything: you cannot think your way out of what was never installed through thinking. The deepest wounds we carry don't live in the mind. They live in the body.  Through vivid, real-life portraits, Afi G shows how trauma actually hides in the body.  This is a teaching about why the affirmations bounce off, why insight alone doesn't free us, and what it truly takes to convince the body that the war is over. — — — Go deeper. When You Can't Believe Your Own Voice: The Wound Beneath the Affirmation

Send us Fan Mail She's been in therapy since she was fourteen. She's in her late forties now. She knows how to regulate herself, talk herself off the ledge, and tell herself she deserves love, peace, and a good life. But when she lies down at night, she doesn't believe a single word of it. In this special episode, drawn from a private client session and shared with permission, Coach Afi G explores the wound beneath the affirmation. Why does self-talk bounce off? Why can someone do everything "right" for thirty years and still not believe their own voice? Afi unpacks what's really happening: why the belief you're reaching for was written into the body before you had words, why it collapses hardest at night, and why the disbelief isn't a malfunction, it's a protector. He walks through why a wound about being lovable is relational and can't heal in solitude, how ungrieved grief keeps the old story in place, and how inherited "echo wounds" can make someone else's survival strategy feel like your most personal truth. This one is for anyone who has done all the work and still couldn't believe they were lovable. The belief comes last. The experience comes first. What you carry, you can transform. Your lineage is your medicine. Àṣẹ. Ashé.  This episode includes discussion of suicidal thinking, abuse, and grief. Please listen with care. — If this episode brought something up for you, please reach out for support. In the U.S. and Canada, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Lineage Is Not the Same as Genealogy

Send us Fan Mail What if you believed you were locked out of your own ancestry because you don't know the names, the records, the stories? In this episode, Coach Afi G dismantles one of the deepest barriers in ancestral healing: the belief that you need a complete family tree to do this work. Drawing from over 25 years of healing practice and the spiritual wisdom of Afro-Diasporic ancestral traditions, Coach Afi G unpacks a distinction that changes everything. Lineage is not the same as genealogy. Genealogy is the map. Lineage is the river. One is information; the other is transmission. And you can be carried by the river your whole life without ever having seen the map. This episode speaks directly to adoptees, to the estranged, to descendants of the enslaved whose names and origins were violently erased, and to anyone raised in the silence of families who simply didn't talk. The message at its heart: the unnamed ancestors are not missing. They are unrecorded. And those are two very different things. You were never standing outside the door. You have been inside the house the entire time. — — — Ready to go deeper? The Three Shadows — Ancestral, Compressed & Sediment

Send us Fan Mail Why do we carry what we never chose? In this episode, Afi G teaches the framework at the heart of this entire podcast — the three shadows we inherit, and how to finally recognize what we've been carrying our whole lives without language for it. Drawing from over 25 years of ancestral healing practice, Afro-Diasporic spiritual tradition, and the science of epigenetics, Afi G introduces the Ancestral Shadow, the Sediment Shadow, and the Compressed Shadow — and shares a deeply personal story about the cost of being unable to ask for help, a wound he traces back through generations to the historical roots of mistrust in Black, Afro-Diasporic, and Latino communities. This is the episode that gives you a new way to understand your patterns, your reactions, and your story — not as character flaws, but as inheritance. And inheritance can be transformed. You are not broken. You are compressed. Why We Carry What We Never Chose

Send us Fan Mail What does it mean to carry what you never chose? In this inaugural episode, Coach Afi G opens the conversation that this entire podcast was built around — why we carry the patterns, wounds, and silences of our lineage, and what becomes possible when we finally turn toward them with intention. Drawing from over 25years of ancestral healing practice, Afro-Diasporic spiritual tradition, and the science of epigenetics, Coach Afi G shares the moment early in his career that made this work undeniable — and introduces the central framework that will guide this entire season. This episode is for Black and Afro-Diasporic communities, for Latino and Latine communities, and for anyone who has ever felt the weight of what their family couldn't say out loud. What your ancestors couldn't finish — you can. — — — DISCLAIMER: The content shared in this podcast is intended for educational, informational, and healing support purposes only.
