The Living Voice

Yee Ley

The Living Voice is a podcast exploring what shapes our voice and how our voice shapes the world.  I’m joined by guests from diverse backgrounds as we explore voice as more than communication. We look at how our voice is shaped by our physical wellbeing, inherited stories, the cultures and environments we move within, and the ways each of us is uniquely wired. Together, we inquire into what becomes possible when we meet our voice with kindness, awareness, and curiosity. I'm your host Yee Ley Lau

Ep4: Song and Sexuality with Talia Brand

In this episode Talia shares with us her journey with voice and how she weaves sound, spirit and soma into her work, the importance of our breath, safe spaces versus co-regulation, the Song of the Whales and how song and sexuality can contribute to our consciousness. She also shares a special transmission with us at the end.  About Talia Talia Brand is the founder of Vocal Alchemy, a body of work devoted to remembering wholeness through voice. At its heart, Vocal Alchemy is an invitation to awaken your unified note through the synergy of sound, spirit and soma. It is a return to the Primordial Voice—the voice before conditioning, before performance, before the perceived split between spirit and matter. Sound has always been Talia's first language. A way of giving voice to the inexpressible and weaving between worlds. For over four decades, she has explored the transformative power of the human voice, beginning with classical vocal training and performance before following a path beyond technique into the deeper intelligence of sound as a pathway to remembering who we truly are in this moment. A Sound and Somatic Therapist, Talia weaves together decades of experience with extensive training in Somatic Experiencing, Embodied Counselling, Sexological Bodywork and Shamanic Womb Work. Her work invites people to move beyond the right-or-wrong sound and rediscover the voice that has always been within—a voice where every note is welcome. Living beside the lakes and mountains of Aotearoa, New Zealand, Talia finds continual inspiration in the natural world. Rivers, oceans and whales have become profound teachers in her own journey, deeply influencing how she hears and understands sound. Through breath, sound, movement, embodied awareness and deep listening, Vocal Alchemy becomes a pathway home—a place where body and spirit are no longer experienced as separate, where sensation and consciousness meet, and where each person can rediscover their own unique song within the unified field. Together we remember. https://www.taliabrand.com/ Support the show Host: Yee Ley Lau www.yeeleylau.com Instagram: @yeeleylau Youtube: @yeeleylau InSightTimer: @yeeleylau

Ep2: Our Voice as a Healing Instrument with Amanda Kent

In this episode I interview my first voice teacher Amanda Kent. We explore her voice journey, healing and how she works with the earth energies, unseen realms and we discuss the dark and light sides that can show up. About Amanda Kent Amanda Kent has been singing since early childhood, with an innate connection to voice that has always felt like a thread running through her life. She later trained as a classical singer, specialising in opera, yet her relationship with sound extended far beyond performance. A turning point came when she was guided to a sound healing workshop through a yoga teacher. In that first experience, something awakened — a direct opening into channelled angelic frequencies and a deeper remembrance of sound as a healing force. From that moment, her path unfolded in a new direction. Alongside training with various practitioners, she has spent over 20 years in deep work with her healer, through which her gifts have been awakened and refined. Much of her practice is guided by energetic activation, intuitive knowing, and a deepening connection to the subtle realms she works within. She began by holding voice-based sound healing groups, allowing the work to emerge organically and build through resonance and word of mouth. Over time, this expanded to include instruments such as gongs and singing bowls, alongside profound one-to-one sessions. Now, with over 15 years of experience, Amanda offers both healing and training spaces, supporting others to awaken their own connection to sound, energy, and inner knowing. Her work weaves together the mystical and the embodied, holding space for both expanded states and grounded integration.
