Bonus Episode: Hayu FanFest, Craig Told Me to DM Him

Fresh off the plane from Sydney, and still very much on a Hayu FanFest high, Sofia and Jess have an emergency Side Dish to debrief the whole glorious, chaotic day. We’re talking VIP meet-and-greets, Housewives in the flesh, the surprising popularity of Craig and Shep, Dorinda complimenting Sofia’s dress, Jess somehow turning her encounter with Shep and Juliet into an impromptu book signing, and the moment Sofia battled a man in a suit while carrying four drinks just to make it into a photo with Cynthia and Alexia. Plus: Craig tells Sofia to DM him, Nicole Gazal O’Neil may have just become our first podcast guest, Meredith and Dorinda take to the decks, and we discover that Hayu FanFest is essentially one giant nightclub bathroom…in the very best possible way. But more than anything, we came home thinking about the incredible community surrounding reality TV. No more calling it a guilty pleasure. It’s just a pleasure. Episode 10: The OGs Are Back, MAFS Is Getting Dark & a True Crime Rabbit Hole

The Housewives are back together, MAFS USA has officially gone off the rails, and Sofia has fallen headfirst into an internet true-crime rabbit hole. This week, we’re unpacking the first episode of The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Roaring 20th from NeNe Leakes’ glorious return and Vicki Gunvalson’s inability to read a room, to an 80s Bunco party at The Quiet Woman and all the nostalgia of seeing the Housewives worlds collide. Then it’s time for a Married at First Sight USA Season 20 update, and things have taken a much darker turn. We talk Caitlin and Devin’s idea of a husband being the “leader” of a marriage, Courtney and Nick, Adam’s increasingly confusing behaviour, why we’re firmly Team Tori,  and the deeply uncomfortable dynamic developing between Nikki and Shaun. In What Distracted Us This Week, Jess begins her eyebrow regrowth experiment while Sofia takes us down the rabbit hole of the ongoing Lindsay Clancy case, separating what is known from the theories taking over TikTok and discussing postpartum psychosis, bias and why the case has generated so much online debate. And finally, our recommendations somehow bring the whole episode full circle, with a memoir about postpartum psychosis, a gripping thriller, an Oscar-winning mystery and Sofia’s current favourite blush. Bonus Episode: Beauty Standards, surgery fantasies, heroin chic & Instagram face

In this special Side Dish episode, Sofia and Jessica unpack the complicated conversation around Ariana Grande, body image and whether concern about a public figure’s appearance can ever be discussed responsibly. From growing up with Kate Moss-era beauty standards to raising girls in the age of TikTok, they explore disordered eating, the pressure to be thin, beauty as currency and why women are constantly being sold a new version of what they’re supposed to look like. Plus, they get into cosmetic surgery, ageing, “Instagram face”, the amount of time women spend maintaining their appearance and Sofia makes a slightly alarming discovery about why the idea of having surgery sounds so appealing.
