    I Am a Hat on a Hat on a Hat

    In this solo intro episode, host Vicki Peterson introduces herself, the show, and the question she's sitting with this season: how do I create again — in a way that actually honors who I am — after spending decades doing it in a way that was slowly taking me apart? Vicki is a screenwriter, educator, late-diagnosed autistic person, and recovering perfectionist living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and its many comorbidities. This episode is her origin story — the Hollywood years, the diagnoses, the collapse, the grief, and the decision to rebuild. Out loud. Imperfectly. On generator power.     Found Family, Big Feelings

    In this episode, Vicki sits down with her aunt Sabrina — PhD in Theatre, lifelong arts educator, and the person who first showed her that big feelings weren't a problem to be managed but a gift to be expressed. Sabrina spent her career creating safe containers for young people's big feelings through theater — including a production called SECRETS that addressed the AIDS crisis for teenagers in the 1980s when almost nobody else was willing to. This conversation is about what that work looked like, why it mattered, and what the arts do for people who feel everything. It's also about what it means to have one person in your life who has known you for 45 years and never once told you that you were too much. ABOUT SABRINA Sabrina holds a PhD in Theatre from UC Berkeley and spent her career as an arts educator and theater director in the San Francisco Bay Area. She created educational theater productions for Kaiser Permanente including SECRETS and Nightmare on Puberty Street — work that used the stage to address the things nobody else was saying to young people.     In this episode, Vicki sits down with her longtime friend and collaborator TJ Berden — filmmaker, producer, and one of her people — for a conversation twenty years in the making. They talk about finding your people in Hollywood, what it means to have big dreams and a big heart in a town that wants to know if it's sellable, and what it looks like to stay true to your values across two decades of an industry that keeps changing the rules. They also talk about neurodivergent creatives — what TJ calls pearl divers — and what it means to make work that goes to the depths of human experience. This is a conversation about traumedy, friendship, identity, and why the stories that are hardest to tell are usually the ones most worth making. He has produced films distributed by major studios and made documentaries on subjects ranging from prison reform to education reform to faith.
