En forêt avec le groupe de marche nordique (An Antidote to City Life?)

Dimanche matin, 8h30, je suis au stade de Courbevoie, puis direction la forêt de Meudon avec mon groupe de marche nordique et notre coach Philippe. Neuf voix différentes : un vrai défi d'écoute, en immersion totale. Step into a real Sunday morning in the Meudon forest with my nordic walking group — nine different voices, real outdoor background noise, and one recurring question put to each walker: why do you come back here every week? This episode is unscripted, on-location French exactly as it happens — genuinely challenging to follow, and genuinely rewarding once you do. This is one of the more demanding episodes on the podcast: multiple speakers, natural interruptions, wind and forest sounds in the background, and the fast, casual rhythm of real outdoor conversation. It's a great stretch exercise for advanced listeners (B2–C1) who want to train their ear on the kind of French you'd actually encounter doing an activity with a group of French speakers. marche nordique · forêt de Meudon · Courbevoie · sport en plein air · reportage · spoken french · learn french · french stories · authentic french · real french · outdoor france · listening challenge What is nordic walking (marche nordique)? Un concert, un corail géant et de l’eau : faire durer l’été (A Concert, a Coral, and a Pool)

Comment prolonge-t-on une saison qu'on sent déjà partir ? La rentrée est là, mais l'esprit résiste encore un peu. Voici trois souvenirs d’été (deux à Paris et un en Italie), pour le faire durer un peu plus longtemps. Three very different memories from this summer, woven together by one simple desire: to make the season last a little longer before autumn takes over. An open-air concert by a Venezuelan singer with a spellbinding voice, a monumental contemporary art piece suspended inside a 16th-century Paris church steeped in royal and literary history, and the quiet, unexpected joy of a morning swim in the Italian hills. This episode is real, reflective, end-of-summer French. The vocabulary ranges comfortably across B1–B2 (describing a concert, a swim, a simple pleasure) while venturing into richer B2–C1 territory with historical and artistic vocabulary — centuries of French history condensed into a single church, and the vivid, poetic description of a giant red coral sculpture. A great episode for learners who enjoy reflective, essayistic French.

A walk through Paris's Japanese quarter turns into something unexpectedly story-like — an overheard tale that's a little too vivid, a bookshop clerk's joke about a surname that almost spells "fairy tale," and an evening phone call spent listing Charles Perrault's classic tales with my father. This episode is written with a playful literary twist: for once, it leans into the passé simple, the tense reserved for storytelling and books, to give the whole episode a genuine fairy-tale feel. The everyday vocabulary here (a snack run, a bookshop errand, a phone call) stays comfortably accessible. What makes this episode especially interesting for B2–C1 listeners is the deliberate use of the passé simple — a tense you'll encounter constantly in French literature but never in daily conversation. Hearing it woven naturally into a spoken story is a genuinely useful way to get your ear used to recognizing it. Pourquoi j’aime la bibliothèque Richelieu (BNF) A Paris Beautiful Reading Room

Un après-midi avec Felicia et Lisa à la BNF Richelieu, dans l'ancien palais du Cardinal Mazarin — et surtout dans la salle Ovale, un lieu spectaculaire, à la fois très XIXe siècle et étonnamment moderne. On y lit, on y dessine, on y observe aussi les autres : une parenthèse studieuse et douce en plein cœur de Paris. A quiet afternoon at the BNF Richelieu library in central Paris, inside a former 17th-century cardinal's palace — and specifically in the Oval Room, a stunning reading room finished in 1936 and reopened to the public a few years ago. This episode is a gentle, observational piece of real spoken French: watching people read, work, and think in one of Paris's most beautiful shared spaces. The vocabulary itself is very accessible — describing a room, a mood, what people are reading. There's also a nice layer of precise, visual vocabulary around the space itself: rows of shelves, reading lamps, work tables, the physical language of a library that's genuinely useful once you notice it. What makes this episode rewarding for B2–C1 listeners, though, is the reflective, essayistic tone: subtle observations about collective concentration, quiet public spaces, and a closing thought on what actually defines a podcast — the kind of nuanced, unhurried French you'll rarely encounter in a textbook..  www.onethinginafrenchday.com D'autres épisodes à écouter aujourd'hui : BNF, Bibliothèque nationale de France

Lire à la plage : le rêve ! Dieppe — Beach, Books, and Pastries in Dieppe

Pique-nique sur la plage de galets, mer verte et falaises, goélands à surveiller de près (Lisa ne leur fait plus confiance !), puis une halte inattendue. Une journée à Dieppe comme on les aime. A slow, easy summer day in Normandy: a beach picnic, wary seagulls, sketchbooks pulled out on the pebbles, and a blissful stretch of reading by the sea at a real beachside library. This episode is designed for repeated, phrase-by-phrase listening — natural, everyday French exactly as it's spoken, with the kind of expressions worth memorizing because you'll actually use them. The vocabulary stays accessible (B1–B2) — a picnic, a walk along the cliffs, a bakery stop — while the storytelling itself, with its warmth and gentle asides (a grandfather's hospital stay mentioned almost in passing, a daughter's simple declaration of happiness), offers B2–C1 listeners an example of natural, understated French narration. Dieppe, jour de marché (Back to Our Favorite Market) - Lundi 24 août 2026

Samedi, 8 heures du matin : direction Dieppe, avec Felicia, Lisa et Pietro. Le grand marché du samedi, les commerçants qu'on retrouve avec plaisir, une librairie pleine de souvenirs... Cet épisode, c'est le début d’une journée entière passée à Dieppe, "comme avant". This episode drops you into a real Saturday morning at one of Normandy's largest outdoor markets : vendors calling regular customers by name, a bookshop conversation. It's designed for learners who want to hear French exactly as it's spoken in daily life. The vocabulary itself sits comfortably in the B1–B2 range — market produce, everyday shopping exchanges, simple past-tense storytelling. But the real value for more advanced listeners (B2–C1) is in the natural rhythm of spontaneous speech: overlapping remarks, a stranger's aside about being hungry, a bookseller's offhand comment about unusually large summer crowds — the kind of implicit, unscripted texture that only comes from real conversation. Oh là là, on a raté l’éclipse ! Oh là là, We Missed the Eclipse !

La reprise ! Après l'Italie, retour à Paris. Je pensais avoir eu une bonne idée pour voir l'éclipse. Mais parfois, on a des surprises.   Back from summer vacation with a plan that seemed perfect: catch the August 12 solar eclipse from an unusual spot in Paris, avoid the crowds, get free glasses. It didn't go as planned. This episode is a real, unscripted family story. Along the way: a dinner in the Italian countryside the week before, a very opinionated pigeon, and a live TV report that somehow makes the whole thing even better. This season, subscribers get more than a transcript — a podcast letter with every episode: a question to think about before pressing play, cultural markers to go deeper into the episode, natural turns of phrase to notice and copy, and a comprehension question for after you've listened. Le clafoutis aux abricots (les ep du 90) How Much Sugar, Exactly?

Pour clore cette série de l’été, retour en 2020 pour un clafoutis aux abricots en famille — un épisode aussi doux et sucré que celui qui a lancé « les épisodes du 90″. Le 90 se cache dans une mesure, aujourd’hui — tendez bien l’oreille une dernière fois ! The perfect way to close this summer series: baking an apricot clafoutis with my daughters, multiplying a recipe, borrowing a pitter from a neighbor, and slowly getting ready for summer vacation. It’s a warm, everyday moment – kitchen vocabulary, family bickering over fruit in the batter, and one particularly tricky little question to say out loud with just the right intonation. This final episode brings the ‘épisodes du 90’ series full circle, echoing the very first rebroadcast that started it all. This summer, no pen, no notebook – just listening and speaking. Subscribers receive a podcast letter with this episode: a question to think about before pressing play, cultural markers to go deeper into the episode, a tricky little phrase worth practicing for its intonation alone, and a comprehension question to answer once you’ve heard the whole story.
