Acts 8.1-40 - Touched or Untouched by God's Grace

This sermon examines Acts chapter 8 to distinguish between genuine conversion and mere religious profession, using the contrasting examples of Saul and Simon the sorcerer. The speaker highlights how Saul's violent persecution of the church demonstrates the depth of human depravity prior to grace, while Simon's attempt to purchase spiritual power reveals the emptiness of a faith that lacks the new birth. The narrative progresses to the ministry of Philip in Samaria, where the distinction between public profession and the receipt of the Holy Spirit is clarified through the actions of Peter and John. The lesson culminates in the story of the Ethiopian eunuch, illustrating how the Holy Spirit guides individuals to understand the Messiah in Isaiah 53 and leads them to baptism. The overall tone is instructional and historical, emphasizing that true salvation is a divine work that transforms the heart rather than a human effort to acquire religious status.

    Devo 110: Prayer Promise

The devotional explores the biblical command to cast burdens upon the Lord, emphasizing that this act requires genuine faith and the release of personal control. It distinguishes between merely throwing a worry to God and truly letting go, noting that carrying loads not designed for human endurance leads to spiritual and physical exhaustion. The message highlights that God's care is active and that He sustains the righteous, even when outcomes differ from human expectations. Through a personal testimony of a missed career opportunity that led to a greater spiritual purpose, the text illustrates how God's timing and plan often surpass individual desires. The core intent is to encourage believers to trust God's ability and wisdom, replacing anxiety with reliance on His perfect will.

    God's Sovereign Plan

This sermon explores the narrative of Joseph in Genesis 37 to demonstrate the sovereignty of God over human evil and circumstance. It argues that God orchestrated specific events, such as the timing of the Ishmaelite traders and the interventions of Reuben and Judah, to fulfill His divine plan for Joseph despite the brothers' jealousy and malice. The teaching emphasizes the importance of meditating on Scripture to discern these divine workings and apply them to personal life and family instruction. It highlights Joseph's ultimate forgiveness of his brothers as a testament to his character and God's grace, contrasting his integrity with the moral failures of his era. The overall intent is to encourage believers to trust in God's specific plan for their lives and to study the Bible with depth and attention to detail.

Jonathan Edwards's Sermons - Volume 2 Works Analyzed and Summarized

In this multi-part series, we journey through Volume II of Jonathan Edwards's Works to explore how one of history's keenest theological minds wielded both the thunder of divine judgment and the blinding beauty of sovereign grace. From the terrifying, Old Testament-anchored metaphors of Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God and Sinners in Zion Tenderly Warned, to the surgical dissection of the self-deceived heart in Hypocrites Deficient in Prayer, Edwards deployed the stark reality of hell not to terrorize for terror's sake, but as a diagnostic hammer to shatter carnal security, strip away false hopes, and drive awakened souls into the means of grace. Yet, as we trace his deep psychological insights through the lens of human inability, duty, and the urgency of seeking, we discover that this dark backdrop of divine justice was intentionally crafted to illuminate its true counterweight: the breathtaking "conjunction of diverse excellencies" in Jesus Christ, whose infinite majesty, tender meekness, and irresistible sweetness offer the only true refuge for a desperate world.

    Stockton Open Air 01/10/2026

Please pray for the Stockton Open Air, Thursdays at 11:30 am. This sermon centres on the birth of Jesus Christ as recorded in Matthew 1, emphasising that His incarnation as Emmanuel, or God with us, was specifically to save His people from their sins. The message presents a stark choice between acknowledging Jesus as Lord or rejecting Him, arguing that human works are insufficient for salvation and that only grace through faith in Christ's atoning death can remove the penalty and power of sin. It highlights the infinite worth of Jesus, who bore the wrath of God on behalf of sinners, contrasting the hope of eternal life with the certainty of judgment for those who reject Him. The tone is urgent and pastoral, calling listeners to examine their spiritual state and trust in the finished work of Christ to be adopted into God's royal family.
