Blood-Bought Family

What does it look like for the church to treat one another like family? In 1 Timothy 5:1–16, Paul teaches us to show honor to everyone in God's household—even when relationships are difficult. We are called to treat older men and women with respect, younger believers with purity, and widows with compassionate and wise care. Families should take responsibility for their own, while the church faithfully supports those who are genuinely alone and in need. Christian love is not merely sentimental; it takes responsibility, exercises wisdom, and seeks what is truly helpful. Why? Because the people sitting beside us are not strangers or inconveniences. They are our brothers and sisters in Christ—blood-bought family. So let's outdo one another in showing honor.

Caught Up in the Moment and Missing the Miracle

This sermon explores the life of Esther to illustrate how believers can avoid missing God's miraculous plans by maintaining the right internal posture during difficult seasons. The central message emphasizes that God's providence prepares individuals for specific purposes, but this preparation can be derailed by bitterness, sin, or fear. The speaker outlines three key disciplines: keeping a pleasant spirit despite hardship, maintaining a pure soul in the face of cultural pressure, and taking a purposeful stand through prayer and courage. By examining Esther's journey from captivity to queenship, the message encourages listeners to handle present moments with faithfulness so they are ready for God's future work. The tone is pastoral and challenging, urging the audience to take personal responsibility for their spiritual condition rather than blaming circumstances.

Our Heavenly Helper

This sermon explores the practical demands of the Christian life outlined in Hebrews 13, arguing that faithfulness in love, hospitality, compassion, purity, contentment, and discipleship is impossible in human strength alone. The central message identifies Jesus Christ as the 'Heavenly Helper' who enables believers to overcome these challenges through His sustaining presence. By examining the Greek concept of 'help' as a nautical term for securing a ship against storms, the preacher illustrates how God's grace binds believers together and keeps them from falling apart in life's trials. The tone is pastoral and encouraging, urging the audience to rely on divine aid rather than willpower to live out the 'secret life of the believer' with integrity and joy.

The Lord's Supper

The sermon provides an instructional defense for observing the Lord's Supper with unleavened bread and wine, arguing that these elements best represent the sinlessness of Christ and the cleansing power of His blood. It addresses the historical shift to grape juice, asserting that the biblical context and the symbolic meaning of fermentation support the use of wine. The teaching further explains the necessity of closed communion, linking it to the maintenance of church discipline and purity as outlined in 1 Corinthians 5. Participants are encouraged to approach the table with self-examination and gratitude, recognizing their worthiness not through personal merit but through their union with Christ. The overall tone is pastoral and doctrinal, aiming to clarify the proper mode and participants of this sacred ordinance.

The Lord’s Supper — Introduction

The sermon explores the theological foundations and practical implications of observing the Lord's Supper, specifically addressing the practices of closed communion and the use of wine. Drawing from the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith and John Gill's commentary, the message clarifies that the ordinance is a symbolic remembrance of Christ's once-for-all sacrifice rather than a re-offering or transubstantiation. It emphasizes that worthy participation requires genuine faith, spiritual hunger, and a life consistent with the gospel, distinguishing between those who partake in faith and those who do so unworthily. The tone is instructional and pastoral, urging believers to examine themselves, maintain church discipline, and approach the table with gratitude and reverence. The discussion concludes by highlighting how these practices foster church purity and encourage believers to align their lives with their profession of faith.

The Strange Woman: Recognizing the Predator

How can Christians recognize sexual temptation before it becomes destructive? Proverbs 7 exposes the tactics of a predatory seducer and shows why biblical wisdom, intentional discipleship, and covenant faithfulness are essential protections against sexual sin. In The Strange Woman: Recognizing the Predator, Solomon warns his son through the tragic picture of an inexperienced young man walking confidently into temptation. The message identifies warning signs such as forwardness, immodesty, manipulation, discontentment, flattery, false spirituality, and provocative speech, while emphasizing that these dangers can apply to both men and women. Parents and spiritual leaders are challenged to disciple young people biblically about sexuality rather than leaving the world to shape their understanding, pointing them instead toward purity, wisdom, and covenant love.
