    On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision, USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Shotgun Spratling and RJ Abeytia return from Pennsylvania to talk about USC taking a 31-23 victory at Penn State in front of more than 114,000 fans. The trio break down the good, the bad and the ugly (of which there was little because USC played perhaps its cleanest game in the Lincoln Riley era).     USC football defense delivers vs Washington, D’Anton Lynn Bowl and Penn State ice cream

    The Helium Boys, Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino, are back behind the microphones to break down the Trojans finding a way to improve to 5-1 behind a strong defensive stand despite angering many of the people in the Coliseum along the way to a 25-21 victory over Washington. They also preview USC's opportunity to prove itself on the road at Penn State against their former defensive coordinator this weekend. The podcasting duo opens with the Two-Minute Drill  where Shotgun discusses his excitement about the upcoming 'White Out' game at Penn State while Chris talks about his disdain for the travel he will have to endure to get to State College, Pa. for the battle with the Nittany Lions. The boys of Helium jump into listener comments and corrections before breaking down the improved defensive play in the hard-fought win over the Huskies, including linebacking play making an impact with Ta'Mere Robinson filling in strongly for the suspended Desman Stephens. They talk about their appearing to be more of a focus on defense leading into the game and the coverage being much tighter than it had in previous outings. They also discuss the positives of playmakers Kameryn Crawford, Jahkeem Stewart and Alex Graham stepping up while punter Lachlan Carrigan may have been one of the most impactful players in the game. But they also discuss the "Fire Lincoln!" chants coming from the student section after the team continued to prove its more difficult for them to get out of their own way than it is to produce highlight reel plays. Chris and Shotgun both noted ill-timed penalties and gaffes as well as the Trojans telegraphing a certain subset of plays because of a player's alignment. After a break, the Helium Boys then take a look forward at USC's trip across the country to take on Penn State for a primetime matchup where there will be familiarity with former Trojan defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn now calling the defense for the Nittany Lions. They look at the key matchups that will take place, including the battle of two quarterbacks with something to prove and a matchup of expectations versus reality. To close out the show, Shotgun takes on Trevino's Take It or Leave It segment before an Overtime period of Chris forcing Shotgun to choose whether to take or leave some Pennsylvania staples.

    No time to celebrate UW victory with white out road trip to State College on deck

    In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and RJ Abeytia are back in studio a day early to accommodate for early travel for what should be a raucous environment in State College. The Trojans have played at home five of its six games, but now needs to pile up some frequent flier miles heading to Penn State for a white out night contest. USC is coming off a better defensive effort against Washington and will now need to couple that with a better road effort to get a win over the Nittany Lions and keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive. The guys take a look back and the win over Washington, from the thick-six by Jahkeem Stewart that gave USC the lead back to the struggles on the offensive side of the ball against what turned out to be a stout Huskies defense. They also look ahead to this important matchup against a reeling Penn State squad that gave up over 400 yards of offense to Northwestern last weekend. It was not a pleasant reunion for PSU defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn, facing off against his old boss at UCLA and current OC for the Wildcats Chip Kelly.     Coach Harvey Hyde says an ugly win is better than a beautiful loss

    On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together discussing USC's 25-21 victory over Washington and while it was ugly, it was an extremely important result for Lincoln Riley, keeping the Trojans playoff hopes alive. The Men of Troy haven't won against UW since 2016 and desperately needed a win against a former Pac-12 foe after last week's loss to Oregon. Coach Hyde breaks down the game, talking about how this young squad needs some veteran leaders to step up, alpha players that the other guys in the locker room will listen to and follow into battle. On the offensive side, he talks about how the team came out flat and lacking consistency and how he would like to see the wide receiver rotation tightened up. On the defensive side it was a much more impressive performance and he loved the move of Gary Patterson to the booth, but Washington's offense isn't great and he wants to see this type of effort against more balanced attacks in the Big Ten. The guys also talk about some of the issues USC has had on special teams and with discipline as the penalty numbers continue to climb. They end the show talking about the upcoming road trip to Penn State where a "white out" crowd will try and make things tough on these Trojans.     Tunnel Vision - Trojans escape with a much needed victory over the Huskies

    On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham and RJ Abeytia are back in studio talking about USC's 25-21 win over Washington on a hot Saturday evening in the Coliseum. Heading into the game the Trojans were relying on a prolific offense that could overcome the team's defensive shortcomings. Against the Huskies it was the defense that stepped up to overcome mistakes on the offensive side of the ball, including a spectacular thick-six when a hobbled Jahkeem Stewart picked up a fumble and rumbled 48-yards for the go-ahead touchdown. Ryan and RJ breakdown the good, the bad and the ugly (and there was plenty of ugly on both sides) and talk about how that even though it wasn't pretty, it was an uber-important result for head coach Lincoln Riley and this Trojans squad. Following the loss to Oregon, the local and national media constantly discussed the job security of Riley and the importance of making the College Football Playoffs this year. A loss to a struggling UW when SC came in as a 9.5-point favorite would have likely been the final nail in Riley's coffin, at least as far as fans were concerned. With the victory, USC keeps its playoff hopes alive heading into back-to-back road games against Penn State and Wisconsin (sandwiched around a bye week). The guys also talk about Gary Patterson's move to the coaches' booth for the game, the improved communication on that side of the ball, USC punting as any times in this game as it did through the first five games of the season and plenty more.
