house music HEALS » Strictly Underground House Music

dattrax: Welcome my Fellow Brothers and Sisters to where house music resides. How is life treating you? Are you pursuing your dreams and goals??!! Hi-Five to you!!!____________________Thought that I'd share my super nerdy process for prepping tracks for a DJ gig or a new house mix. ____________________After I first buy and download a new batch of house music tracks from Traxsource or Bandcamp.I usuallv listen to them separatelv for a week or two. Try to get to know and understand them. As I listen to them over and over again, I imagine different combinations with my older house tracks that I have.Incorporating them into my collection.____________________If I'm making a new mix, then I'll start organizing them and adding a bunch of tracks that I'd want to mix with the new ones. If I'm prepping for an upcoming DJ gig, then I'll take the most danceable tracks and put them into one large folder. ____________________Usuallv takes me 4 to 8 hrs to choose and organize for each gig or new mIx. It's a therapeutic ritual and a lot of fun.It sounds boring, but it's not because I'm imagining the different directions that I can take the night or a mix. How do I judge how many total house tracks do I need for my gig? If my set is 3hrs, then 1 know that the avg speed for me is changing a track every three minutes.Other DJs like to play their tracks for 6-7mins each. Everyone has different preferences. So I know that I' probably end up playing 60 tracks give or take, within three hours. Then there's the issue of choice. Not too much or I won't have an overall feel or direction. That's why you see young laptop DJs bring a few thousand tracks and then are all over the place. Then I decide what I feel ike sharing. Track names will pop into my mind. So I go through the folder and move the tracks that I really love into a 'Priority' folder Then I go into a dozen rabbit holes. First, I collect evervthing into one folder. Then I make a priority folder and try to eliminate a lotThen I'll put them into folders according to energy levels.Mellow Vocal. Mellow Bit Harder Vocal Medium Mellow Vocal Medium Dubby Medium InstrumentalMedium level energy have the most ofIfI know thati won't be going harder, then nothing more to organize.Med Bit Harder HypeTwo more everv levels.Depending on the night or mix.Too little choice and I'm going to annoyed instead of having fun.So I give myself 5 to 8 choices per 60 tracks. So let's say the total is 350.You know how many tracks and how many energy levels you want to take them on.Choosing the very first track for your set. That's extremely important. Setting the mood and the expectation. Then just mix, sing and dance!!! Sharing your vision of house with your dancing friends.Interact with the dancers and try to surprise them with your combination choices. For house music. It's al about the combinations.____________________All the best to you and your loved ones. From your friendly neighbourhood Chinaman who LOVES house and LUVS you.May God Bless You and All Who You Love Abundantly 💜💜💜💜💜💜♥️AMEN = So be it. At 25mins, there's a Sade house bootleg ("Is It a Crime") that comes in that was made by my good friend, Douglas Carter. He's one of the best Toronto house music DJs and producers ever!! He gave me this beautiful creation over two years ago. But, because he didn't think that it was finished, I wasn't allowed to put it in a mix or play it LIVE. I've patiently asked him every six months if he got a chance to finish it YET 😅🤔😜 This time when I bugged him, he finally gave me permission to put it in this mix. I've heard it unmixed over 50 times since 😅 Finally got to touch it and hear it loud at CTRL Room. Soooooooo happy!!! dattrax: Welcome my Fellow Brothers and Sisters to where house music resides. How is life treating you?Which part of the world are you from? Ever visit Toronto? Do you LOVE house or just dipping your toes in this sonic pond?Back in the day, you'd listen to 10 different hot local DJs spin the same tracks- it was incredible to see their stamp on house. Their sonic signature if you will.I was in love with house and DJing when I realised that it wasn't music in the sense of Mozart, but a form of self expression- participating in making a musical collage. Like a musical cut anc paste. You qet to pick vour favourite songs, how fast or slow, or how long you want to play it, which part of the song you want to highlight, whether you want to cut it up or laver it, whether vou want the feel to be smooth or charging, whether vou want... The combinations are endless w/ house music and that much fun!" __________________Thank you. All the best to you. Radiant Memories » Strictly Classic House Music

dattrax: Welcome my Fellow Brothers and Sisters to where house music resides. Classic house is a definition that depends on when someone got into house music themselves. For me, it's tracks that came out between 1986 and 1996. I started to party to house around 1991, but I got to hear tracks from '86 played at those old warehouse parties. This is a classic house mix from the test mixes vault that I heard recently and enjoyed, so thought that I'd share this mix with you. Enjoy this ride. __________________Thank you. All the best to you. Louder Than Words » Strictly Underground House Music

dattrax: Welcome my Fellow Brothers and Sisters to where house music resides. How are you moving towards your goals???!!Do you DJ house music? Do you prefer a regular line level DJ mixer or a rotary mixer?I grew up playing on line lever mixers and am used to them.I've heard many house DJs say that they have more control with a rotary mixer and that they sound better when it outputs the audio.Everyone's journey is different. I got into the dancing and listening to other people DJ for the first 4yrs. Buying records next and then DJ'ing. Then throwing parties and trying to promote 😅 I played on the Pioneer DJ mixer, the "DJM 500" for years and that was a non rotary, line level DJ mixer. Never even saw a rotary until maybe 15 yrs into house music. It wasn't fancy or high end. Usually hallow sound, farting bass. Not balanced. Piercing mids. __________________Thank you. dattrax: Welcome my Fellow Brothers and Sisters to where house music resides. Have you been having work weeks like you intended? Are you winning the daily battles within your own mind? Are you being your own Best Cheerleader?I decided at 49yrs old to stop any negative thoughts or self-talk. Recognise it. Stop it. Then displace it with house music or comedy. I didn't even try to fight it. I had low confidence in my will power. LMAO.I hope that all is well in your neck of the words. Thank you for taking a listen to our brand of house music. [We've loved this special art form since we were 14-15yrs old and now almost 52. We've gone past the stage where people might ask, 'Aren't you too old for...' by decades. LMAO]. There are dozens of house DJs that I listen to, so I know that choice is abundant, so I appreciate it when someone would take time from their lives to check out a mix. It makes me happy thinking about people smiling and bopping their heads while driving or walking their doggies or working out or cleaning their homes to our mixes or any other activity. What was really cool the last few years were three separate friends blasting one of my house mixes in their cars and they were in some warm tropical paradise, Jaimaica, South America or Mexico and took short 1min videos and sent them to me. It was a great poor man's vacation. I could picture being with them in the heat with my music blaring out of their cars. House music is such a connector. __________________Thank you.
