    God's Masterpiece Created with Purpose

In this message on Ephesians 2:10, Pastor Blake uses Hokusai's "Great Wave" painting to illustrate that a painting should point back to its painter. He explains that the Greek word for "workmanship" (poema) means a masterpiece or work of art, and that, as in Romans 1, God's creation exists to display his eternal power and divine nature. As believers, we are not broken pieces glued back together but new creations in Christ, and we often struggle to embrace that identity because we keep drifting back toward our old life and old master. We are saved by grace, not by works, but we are saved to works, which are the fruit and not the root of our salvation. The second half looks at what those good works can look like in everyday life: in our relationships, at work and school, and in serving through our church and community. Even small acts, like handing someone an invitation or helping a stranded driver with gas, can be used mightily by God. Pastor Blake closes with practical encouragement: deflect praise back to God, do good work quietly "like a ninja," and simply walk in the works God has already prepared for us. He leaves us with the question of whether we see ourselves as the Master Painter's masterpiece, created to bring him glory. But God

In Ephesians 2:4–9, Paul reminds us of the dramatic change God brings through His grace. Though we were once dead in our sin, disobedient, and deserving of God’s wrath, God moved toward us in mercy and love. Through our union with Christ, He has made us alive, raised us up, and seated us with Christ in the heavenly places. These are the completed works of God, accomplished not because of anything we have done, but because of His immeasurable grace. This message explores the nature of God’s grace as His unmerited favor, love, kindness, and mercy. Salvation cannot be earned through good works, self-improvement, or religious effort; it is God’s gift, received through faith. Because our salvation is entirely dependent upon God’s grace, there is no room for boasting—only gratitude and worship. We are encouraged to continually remember the grace God has shown us in Christ, who lived the perfect life we could not live, died the death we deserved, and rose again so that we might share in His life and enjoy His grace forever. Remembering Who You Were

In Ephesians 2:1–3, Paul calls us to remember who we once were apart from Christ. We were spiritually dead in our sins, disobedient as we followed the ways of the world, Satan, and our own flesh, and deserving of God’s righteous wrath. This sobering picture reminds us that sin is not something to minimize or compare with the sins of others, but something we must honestly recognize in our own lives. Remembering the depth of our brokenness helps us appreciate the greatness of God’s grace and redemption in Jesus Christ. As we consider who we were, we are better prepared to rejoice in the words that come next: “But God.” This sermon encourages us to remain humble and grateful, continually remembering what Christ has rescued us from and allowing that truth to shape how we live.   Sermon Text: Ephesians 2:1-3 Date: September 13, 2026 Preacher: Blake Theiss

God’s Power Displayed in Jesus at Work in the Church

In Ephesians 1:19–23, we are reminded of God’s incredible power displayed through Jesus Christ. God raised Jesus from the dead, defeating our greatest enemy, death, and gave Him complete authority over every power and dominion. Because Christ is victorious, we can live with hope and confidence even when we face spiritual opposition. Jesus is the head of the church, and we are His body. As His church, we are called to live in unity and reflect His power and presence to a watching world. May we guard against division, selfishness, and sin, and faithfully display the grace, love, and victory of Christ through the way we live together.   Sermon Text: Ephesians 1:19-23 Date: September 6, 2026 Preacher: Blake Theiss

    A Prayer for Enlightened Eyes

How often do we know more about God than actually know Him experientially? Out faith in Christ and the work of the Spirit through Scripture should personally deepen our understanding of God’s character, grace, holiness, sovereignty, goodness, and love.   Paul highlights three things believers need spiritual eyes to see clearly: how to respond to changing circumstances, how to overcome the ongoing effects of sin, and how to stand faithfully in spiritual warfare. Paul’s prayer ultimately points believers to three realities: the hope of God’s calling, the riches of our glorious inheritance, and the immeasurable greatness of God’s resurrection power available to us now. The central challenge is to make Paul’s prayer our own—to ask God to continually illuminate our hearts so that knowing Him transforms how we live, worship, serve, love others, and face whatever comes in the week ahead.

Sealed for the Praise of His Glory

Ephesians 1:13–14 teaches that the Holy Spirit seals believers as God’s own possession, providing security, authority, and assurance of their future redemption. As the Spirit is also a pledge of God’s promise, believers can rest confidently in God’s faithfulness and live in a personal, relational walk with Him.

Chosen to the Praise of His Glory

Ephesians 1:3–14 may be the most fought-over paragraph in the New Testament, and the fight has cost us the song. In the Greek it's a single 202-word sentence built on one verb: He chose. Paul, a Pharisee who had prayed the Psalms his whole life, reaches for the berakah, the extended blessing that closes each book of the Psalter, and pours into it Deuteronomy 7, the finished work of Christ, and the mystery that Gentiles are now brought into the people of God. Three verses, one repeated chorus: to the praise of His glory. Here's the good news: everything Israel could sing, you can now sing in Christ. God chose you before the foundation of the world in Christ. He adopted you as a full legal heir through Christ. He planned that you would stand before him holy and blameless, not on the strength of your obedience, but in Christ. Don't squeeze the mystery out of it. Learn to sing it. Because We All Live in Ephesus

You've probably been told the gospel boils down to being good and being religious, and that's the exact same half-truth the church in Ephesus was living on. Paul planted that church, watched it wrestle with doubt, occult obsession, wealth, and false teachers rising from within, and then wrote them a letter from a Roman prison that never once dumbs the gospel down to meet them where they were; it lifts them up instead. As we begin this slow walk through Ephesians, you'll see that the culture of ancient Ephesus is the culture we live in now: incomplete faith, intellectual doubt, spiritual forces we can't out-muscle on our own, and a hunger for wealth that money can't satisfy. Over the coming weeks, we'll open up what Paul calls "the unsearchable riches of Christ," riches so deep it'll take an eternity in heaven just to start understanding them.
