My brother in Christ, you do not treat other denominations with enough fairness, but seem to be very pigeonholed within your own denomination and tradition, which you insist is not a denomination and tradition. In fact, you have an unwritten creed. You have a very specific way of interpreting the Bible that originated in early America, which is very new and novel. This is a creed, but when it’s questioned, you claim falsely that you just “believe the Bible” and others don’t. How about, instead of lobbying this charge as if only the restorationists or non-denominationals are engaging with the Scriptures, recognize that you too have a creed (a set of beliefs that you believe Scripture teaches), but unlike mine (the Westminster Standards), yours is unwritten. We have creeds for the purpose of determining, in community, what Scripture teaches. If we find them to teach something unbiblical, we amend them. I wish you would study the Westminster Confession and find that it is backed holistically with Scriptural citations. Even if you disagree with our interpretations, it’s a wrong charge to say that we do not strive to be biblical (even though we don’t do this perfectly, as no one does). When you claim a superiority over other traditions, saying that they’re rooted in creeds and you in the Bible, intellectually honest and charitable discussion becomes impossible.
