    Pullin from the Stacks - Brian Auger Favorites

    Brian Auger's "Closer to It" LP was one of the first records and first breakbeats I copped long ago, and his version of Eugene McDaniels' "Compared to What" on there remains a favorite. I bought most of these records many, many years ago - mainly for samples, but over the years I've come to really dig into the songs and music themselves. The living legend is still out there making music today, and it felt important to put together a small tribute to his work, a few days from his 87th birthday. Salute!

    Pullin from the Stacks - Thank You Abdullah Ibrahim!

    One of my all time favorite musicians has moved on - Abdullah Ibrahim aka Dollar Brand, South African legend, whose tunes fueled the anti-apartheid movement. This tribute is long overdue since I have played his records consistently over many years. Truly majestic and inspirational music. These are just a couple of my favorites.     Pullin from the Stacks - Cuba Va!

    Seems like a good time to remind folks - especially in the US - that Cuba has continued to suffer under the US embargo and especially recently under the more aggressive Trump measures, things are in a horrific place and many people are dying. This mix of OG Cuban records - some bought on my trip to the country in 2015 - is a tribute to the amazing people across the country who have continued to fight and stand up against imperialism and colonialist powers. Yeah there's some crackle but hopefully it doesn't stop you from enjoying this amazing music.
