I'm a little biased, since I know one of the hosts, but this great little podcast fills a hole in my heart. Or at least in my listening rotation.
What works:
Several of the geeky pop media podcasts I've tried out pay too much fan service, or the hosts lack chemistry. This podcast avoids falling prey to those two traps. The stated format is inspired...two nerds introduce their less-traveled colleague to various topics. This keeps the discussion accessible even if the listener isn't an expert in the discussion of the week. Also, these three guys get along famously, so each episode reminds me of those nerdy conversations I've had hanging out with friends. I also like that My Two Nerds is a geeky show that does't seem to be limiting itself to one genre or topic. Reminds me a lot of The Incomparable! podcast, and that's no faint praise.
What can improve:
The mix on the first few episodes is a little quiet. It works on headphones, or in the car where I can push up the volume on the stereo. One habit I have, though, is using my iPhone's built-in speaker to listen to audio. Even at full volume, My Two Nerds is barely audible in that context.
Another piece of constructive criticism I have is that the show is at its strongest when the hosts stay within sight of the topic of that week. The most recent episode was ultimately fun to listen to, but it strayed around a bit. The plan to discuss favorite cartoons ended up being a brainstorming session for future shows and a free associative riff on unrelated topics. The hosts are entertaining enough that it worked out this time, but I think keeping the theme of the week in mind will help keep me involved in the long run.
In short, if you wear your nerdiness proudly, this podcast is worth your time.
