The gospel is not simply the starting point of the Christian life; it is the good news that continually renews every part of it. In Christ, our identity is received rather than achieved, freeing us from both the pressure to prove ourselves and the need to define ourselves.     Vision Series: Gospel Renewal September 13, 2026 • RD McClenagan • John 20:21 In this week of the God Has More vision series, RD McClenagan introduces Fellowship’s value of gospel renewal by challenging believers to see the gospel as far bigger than a one-time message that brings salvation—it is the truth and power that continually transforms every part of the Christian life. Using Paul’s confrontation of Peter in Galatians 2, RD shows how even mature believers can live out of step with the gospel when fear, approval, performance, or other idols become more real to them than their identity and acceptance in Christ. The fullness of the gospel reminds believers that in Christ they are justified, regenerated, sanctified, adopted, and continually being transformed by the Holy Spirit, giving them a secure foundation that does not depend on their behavior, circumstances, or the approval of others. Gospel renewal happens as Christians continually preach the gospel to themselves, behold Christ, confess and put sin to death, and intentionally apply gospel truth to the specific places in their lives where they are tempted to look elsewhere for security or worth. Prayer allows believers to encounter God, call on Him to fulfill the promises of His Word, and approach Him confidently as a loving Father who welcomes His children to come honestly in weariness, fear, grief, and need. RD encourages believers to develop a practical rhythm of prayer through adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication, while also remembering that the goal is not a perfect system but simply learning to make prayer our first response. Because Jesus is continually interceding for His people, believers can pray with confidence and persistence, continuing to ask, seek, and knock even when answers do not come immediately. Because everyone has beliefs about God that influence their lives, mature discipleship requires holding together sound doctrine, transformed affections, and faithful action rather than separating what we know from how we live. Drawing from Paul’s instruction to Timothy to watch both his life and doctrine closely, RD encourages believers to spend time prayerfully reflecting on God’s Word and depending on the Holy Spirit so that truth moves beyond information and becomes deeply rooted in the heart. True theological integration means allowing what we know to be true about God to shape our everyday responses while embracing the whole counsel of God rather than emphasizing only the parts of the Christian life we naturally gravitate toward. Ultimately, growing in theology should lead us toward greater humility, love for God and neighbor, the fruit of the Spirit, worship, and increasing Christlikeness as our lives become more consistent with the truths we profess. Because God’s Word is true and trustworthy, believers can anchor themselves in its promises through suffering, uncertainty, and the shifting circumstances of life, calling His faithfulness to mind even when what they see feels overwhelming.
