    Only 9% of Americans Are Excited About AI. I Built a Case File Anyway.

    Hi, I'm Connor with Honor - message me here! Nine percent. That's the share of American adults Pew Research found more excited than concerned about AI in daily life. Fifty-two percent are more concerned. Roughly 6 to 1, fear to hope. Connor MacIvor spent 20 years with LAPD building cases. So he pulled 300 AI futurist videos from YouTube, sorted them, and built a case file: exhibits with citations, then a cross-examination where he puts his own argument on the stand and tries to break it. What he found: He guessed the videos would run 90% doom. Of 257 he could classify, 23 were pessimistic, 21 optimistic and the rest neutral or mixed. The material is balanced. The audience is not.Why: in 22,743 randomized headline tests from the Upworthy archive, each negative word raised clicks about 2.3% and each positive word lowered them about 1%. Nobody had to decide to scare you. The incentive did it.The exhibits, all past tense. A man with ALS got his voice back at 97.5% sustained accuracy. AlphaFold released about 200 million protein structures and gave them away free, and the work won a Nobel Prize.The cross-examination. The people predicting cures keep missing their own deadlines. Biology runs on biological time; you can't compress a clinical trial. In 2013 a paper said 47% of US jobs were at risk of automation. August 2026 unemployment: 4.1%.Who it helps. In one large customer-support study, AI raised average productivity 14% and novice productivity 34%.His verdict: the optimists are wrong about the calendar, and the doomers are wrong about the direction. The diet industry decided that feeling is the problem and sells ways to make it go away.     3 Out of Every 100 Tasks Go Where You Don't Want. Is AI Safer?

On September 3, a lab released a new frontier model and graded it "Critical" for cyber capability, by its own threshold, on its own system card. Within days, Los Angeles Unified paused generative AI services for students in every grade. So is AI getting safer, or are the numbers just misleading? Connor MacIvor reads the numbers the way he'd read a case file. In this episode: Is the new model safer than the last one? Yes. Its malign-output rate is 3.4% against 18.8% for the previous model. And 3.4% still means three out of every 100 real tasks go somewhere you don't want.99.7% sounds excellent on prompt injection. That's about 21 failures in 10,000. If your AI reads 10,000 emails this year, that's 21 chances for a stranger's email to steer it. A percentage is useless without a denominator, and nobody hands you the denominator.The district's move is a pause while it reviews instructional use and safeguards, not a verdict.The two clocks.
