Galatians 5:22-24, ESV BIBLICAL GOODNESS IS ROOTED IN GOD'S CHARACTER Goodness = Agathosune 18 Moses said, "Please show me your glory." 19 And he said, "I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you my name 'The Lord.' And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy. Exodus 33:18-19, ESV I will give thanks to your name, O Lord, for it is good. Psalm 54:6, ESV 11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13 He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. John 10:11-18, ESV GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:17, ESV Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Psalm 34:8, ESV As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. Genesis 50:20, ESV Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord." Job 1:21, ESV 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. Romans 8:28-29, ESV GOODNESS IS NOT ABOUT OUTER BEHAVIOR BUT INNER TRANSFORMATION If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! Matthew 7:11, ESV How can we Cultivate goodness in our lives? How can we Cultivate goodness in our lives? 1. Discern what is good Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God. 3 John 1:11, ESV LEAVE A LEGACY OF GOODNESS In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
