The Empowered Spiritual Walk Pt II, Romans 8:6-11 – October 4, 2026

In Part II of The Empowered Spiritual Walk, we continue our line-by-line study through Romans 8 and examine the contrast between the carnal mind and the spiritually minded life. Romans 8 teaches us that being carnally minded leads to death, while being spiritually minded produces life and peace. As believers, we have been given the Holy Spirit, but we are still called to deliberately resist the flesh, recognize the progression of temptation, trust the Lord, remain grounded in His word, and yield ourselves to the Spirit. We also look at what it means to have the Spirit of Christ dwelling within us, the assurance that comes from being sealed by the Holy Spirit, and several practical markers that can help us recognize the Spirit’s renewing work in our lives. And ultimately, Romans 8:11 points us back to an amazing reality: the same Spirit who raised Jesus Christ from the dead dwells within every believer. The question becomes: How do we maximize the power of the Holy Spirit within us? The answer is Christ. The Empowered Spiritual Walk Pt I, Romans 8:1-6 – October 4, 2026

What does it really mean to be empowered by the Holy Spirit? Romans chapter eight provides the answer to the struggle revealed in Romans chapter seven. The Christian life cannot be lived through the strength of our own flesh. The law can reveal our sin and our need for God, but it cannot give us the power to become sanctified. That power comes through God, the Holy Spirit. In this teaching from Romans 8:1-6, we look at the freedom believers have from condemnation in Christ Jesus, the law of the Spirit of life, the importance of Christ being fully God and fully man, the righteous requirement of the law fulfilled in Christ, and the difference between setting our minds on the flesh and setting our minds on the things of the Spirit. We also look practically at what it means to cooperate with the Holy Spirit: depending upon Him, praying before reacting, keeping our thoughts centered on spiritual things, remaining saturated in the Word of God, confessing when we stumble, and moving forward in the Spirit. Wretched but Worthy, Romans 7:14-25 – September 27, 2026

The struggle between the flesh and the Spirit is real for every believer. In Romans 7:14–25, the Apostle Paul describes the painful conflict of wanting to do what is right while still confronting the sin nature that dwells within us. In this teaching, we look at why God’s law is holy, just, and good, yet cannot sanctify us through the power of the flesh. We examine Paul’s statement that “in my flesh nothing good dwells,” the importance of the Holy Spirit in the believer’s life, and Samson as an example of the difference between being strengthened by the Spirit and attempting to operate in our own strength. We also look at the battle that takes place in the mind and practical ways to take ungodly thoughts captive: recognizing them through self-examination, confronting them according to the word of God, committing them to prayer, and saturating our minds with Scripture.
