Make Us One - The Call to Church Unity

Unity can sound like a nice idea. But Scripture presents it as something far more serious. Jesus prayed that His people would be one—and He connected that unity directly to the world believing that the Father sent Him. In this message, we explore why unity matters so deeply to the heart of God and what it looks like for the church to pursue it in real life. Looking at passages including John 17, Ephesians 2 and 4, 1 Corinthians 12–13, and Matthew 11, we see that the church was never meant to be a collection of independent individuals who simply happen to worship in the same room. We are being built together as a spiritual house, the body of Christ, and a spiritual family. But unity doesn't come naturally. Our own pride, the individualism of our culture, and the forces that seek to divide us all pull us toward isolation, bitterness, preference, and ultimately disunity. So what do we do? Paul's answer in Ephesians 4 is striking: we are to be “eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”And that begins with humility, gentleness, patience, and bearing with one another in love. Ultimately, the path toward unity is the same path toward every other impossible work God calls us to: turn our eyes toward Jesus. Jesus describes His own heart as “gentle and lowly.” As we draw near to Him, repent of our pride, and find our identity and security in Him, we become increasingly able to love, forgive, bear with, and remain committed to one another. We aren't individual pieces. We are being built together. And our unity matters—not just for us, but because through our unity, the world can see something of Jesus. Witness Pt. 2: Seen — What Does Your Life Say About Jesus?

We’ve been SENT by Jesus. But before people ever hear what we say about Christ, they often see how we live. In the second message of our Witness series, we look at 1 Peter 2:11–12 and Matthew 5:13–16 and consider what it means for our lives to be a visible witness to Jesus. Peter calls Christians to live as “sojourners and exiles”—people who are different from the world around them, but not distant from the people in it. Jesus describes us as the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Our calling is to live among people in such a way that they can see the difference Christ is making in us. We look at three aspects of a faithful Christian witness: We should be seen as different.Following Jesus changes the way we respond to anger, conflict, temptation, disappointment, generosity, forgiveness, integrity, anxiety, and hope. We should be seen among them.We can't be a visible witness to people we never actually see. Jesus calls us to live distinctly without becoming distant—to genuinely love, serve, listen to, and build relationships with people who don't know Him. We should be seen doing good. Our good works aren't the Gospel, but they can make the goodness of the Gospel visible. As Peter says, people may see our good deeds and ultimately glorify God. And this doesn't mean pretending to be perfect. Sometimes one of the most powerful things people can see is a Christian who knows how to repent—to admit when we're wrong, ask for forgiveness, and allow Jesus to continue changing us. We have been SENT. Now we must be SEEN. Not perfect. Not performative. Not pretending. Just an increasingly visible life being transformed by Jesus. 1 Peter 2:11–12 | Matthew 5:13–16 #Witness #Seen #Evangelism #ChristianLiving #1Peter2 #Matthew5 #Gospel #Jesus #Christianity

    Witness Pt. 1: Sent

What does it actually mean to be a witness for Jesus? When we hear the word “missions,” we often think about missionaries traveling to other countries. But Jesus didn’t simply establish a missionary program—He created a missionary people. If you belong to Jesus, you have been sent by Jesus to bear witness to Jesus. In this opening message of our Witness series, we look at Matthew 28:16–20 and Acts 1:6–8 to discover three realities of the Christian calling: Jesus has sent us. The Great Commission isn’t reserved for professional missionaries or gifted evangelists. Jesus has given His church the responsibility to go, make disciples, and proclaim the Gospel. Jesus has empowered us. We don't have to be natural evangelists or persuasive speakers. Jesus promises the power of the Holy Spirit so that we can be His witnesses. Our responsibility is faithful obedience; the outcome belongs to God. Jesus has placed us somewhere. Christian mission isn't only about going somewhere else. God has already placed people around us—in our neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, families, and everyday relationships. Those relationships aren't interruptions to our mission. They are part of our mission. Our calling can be summed up in three words: SENT → SEEN → SPEAK We have been sent by Jesus. We live lives that make Christ visible. And we remain ready to speak when opportunities come. This isn't a call to guilt or pressure. It's an invitation to faithfully live as the witnesses Jesus has already called us to be.
