    Why Selling Your Books Will Pay You More Than Giving Them Away

    I get it. You’re publishing your book to give away copies. You’ve heard it can help you close business — and it has. For some, giving books away can close millions in deals and pack their pipeline for the next 3-4 years. But here’s why selling your book will actually pay you more, more easily, for longer, than giving it away ever could. 👇🏽 A free book is a discounted book. Discounts are not valued by the customer. A sale creates a believer — someone with buy-in to your mission who becomes a repeat buyer and evangelizes for you. There is a phenomenon in business called network effects. Metcalfe’s Law says that with each book you sell, the number of conversations about your business (without you being in the room) grows exponentially. Not linearly. Exponentially. 100 books sold can spark 4,950 unique conversations about you, without you in the room. 10,000 books? 50 million. Giving books away is the short way that becomes the long way.
