    Catholic Bible Daily Reflections Podcast Episode 23 | Genesis 48 - 50 | Blessings & Curses

    Welcome to Episode 23 of the Catholic Bible Daily Reflections Podcast (Daily Reflection #23). Today we are discussing Genesis chapters 48-50 and reflecting on these events from a today perspective. We see Jacob as he is nearing his death in Egypt bless Joseph’s 2 sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, and take them into God’s covenant and inheritance. Jacob then gives blessings and curses to his remaining sons according to their good or bad life choices and actions. Joseph officially and formally forgives his brothers. Jacob and Joseph both die in Egypt, Jacob being buried in Canaan, and Joseph instructing that he be taken for burial later after God takes all the Israelites out of Egypt.     Catholic Bible Daily Reflections Podcast Episode 22 | Genesis 46 - 47 | Israel Settles Into Egypt

    Welcome to Episode 22 of the Catholic Bible Daily Reflections Podcast (Daily Reflection #22). Today we are discussing Genesis chapters 46-47 in the NRSV version of the Catholic Bible and reflecting on these events from a today perspective. We see in these chapters that God appears again to Jacob to reassure him that he should go to Egypt, that he will be with him there and will bless him greatly. He also reassures him that he will see Joseph again before he dies in Egypt. Jacob and his entire family (70 persons) enter and settle into Egypt. The famine is so severe that the Egyptians sell everything, including themselves, to survive. God orchestrates all events in his great plan for the Israelites, and he sets everything up for the upcoming slavery and Exodus of the Israelites.     Catholic Bible Daily Reflections Podcast Episode 21 | Genesis 44 - 45 | Joseph Revealed

    Welcome to Episode 21 of the Catholic Bible Daily Reflections Podcast (Daily Reflection #21). Today we are discussing Genesis chapters 44-45 of the NRSV version of the Catholic Bible and reflecting on these chapters from a today perspective. We see in these chapters that the brothers appear repentant to Joseph, but he devises one last test. Joseph sends all the brothers home, but instructs his servants to put his silver cup into Benjamin’s sack. After the brothers leave, his servant overtakes them and accuses them of theft, and they head back to Egypt. The cup was found in Benjamin’s sack so Jacob pleads to take Benjamin’s place as slave to Joseph. Joseph finally reveals himself to his brothers, describes God’s plan and the continuing famine, and directs them to return to Egypt to live and survive the famine. Jacob learns Joseph is alive and we leave off in the chapter with all the family about to begin their journey and new life in Egypt. I hope you enjoy today’s discussion ❤️

    Welcome to Episode 20 of the Catholic Bible Daily Reflections Podcast (Daily Reflection #20). Today we are discussing Genesis chapters 42 and 43 in the NRSV version of the Catholic Bible and reflecting on these events from a today perspective. We see that Jacob’s sons now come face to face with Joseph. They do not recognize Joseph, but he recognizes them. He puts them to the test, and he sees their efforts to repent from their sins against Joseph. He keeps Simeon in the prison while directing the brothers to return to Egypt with the youngest brother, Benjamin., which they do. Joseph, a good and faithful servant of God, is on a path of forgiveness with his brothers, and he is now finally sees Benjamin again. I hope you enjoy today’s discussion ❤️

    Catholic Bible Daily Reflections Podcast Episode 19 | Genesis 40 - 41 | Joseph Rises to Power

    Welcome to Episode 19 of the Catholic Bible Daily Reflections Podcast (Daily Reflection #19). Today we are discussing Genesis chapters 40-41 of the NRSV version of the Catholic Bible and reflecting on these events from a today perspective. We see in chapters 40 and 41 that Joseph, while still in prison on a false charge, correctly interprets the dreams of two prisoners. Later, Joseph interprets the dreams of the pharaoh, and Joseph presents a reasonable plan to the pharaoh to survive the coming famine foretold by God in the dreams. Pharaoh elevates Joseph to power, to become pharaoh’s number two man in all of Egypt to oversee Joseph’s plan for the famine. Joseph is then married to an Egyptian daughter of pharaoh’s priest, and has two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. These two sons will be brought into God‘s covenant and inheritance later by their grandfather, Jacob, as we will see in later chapters. I hope that you enjoy today’s discussion ❤️

    Catholic Bible Daily Reflections Podcast Episode 18 | Genesis 38 - 39 | God’s Will Be Done

    Welcome to Episode 18 of the Catholic Bible Daily Reflections Podcast (Daily Reflection #18). Today, we are discussing Genesis chapters 38 and 39 in the NRSV version of the Catholic Bible. We see Judah, through whom God has a plan to bring his covenant and blessing, and through whom God plans to reconcile the world back to him - King David and Jesus descend from Judah. Judah separates from his family and lives in Canaan, marrying a Canaanite woman. He has 3 sons, 2 of which were very wicked and refused to have descendants according to God's plans for their lives. They are killed by God, and then Jacob refuses to have his daughter-in-law Tamar marry the 3rd son and have children, so she devises a devious plan to get descendants through Judah. Her son, Perez, is whom God will use as the descendant of King David and Jesus, showing us God's will be done and that God will use imperfect people and events to bring about miracles. We later see Joseph, a slave in Egypt, accused of assaulting his master's wife. He is thrown into prison, but he remains loyal and faithful to God through everything. Joseph is part of God's plan to save the Israelites, but he must undergo testing, trials and tribulations, which we continue to see in these chapters. I hope you enjoy today's discussion ❤️

    Welcome to Episode 17 of the Catholic Bible Daily Reflections Podcast (Daily Reflection 17). Today we are discussing Genesis chapters 36-37 in the NRSV version of the Catholic Bible and reflecting on these events from a today perspective. We see Esau’s line of descendants and that these descendants put kings in place to rule over them, well before Israel, who are right led by God on the path in the covenant and promise. We see Jacob having his dreams of greatness years before God’s plan unfolds, and the start of Joseph’s faith journey and wilderness season with God. I hope you enjoy today’s discussion ❤️

    Welcome to Episode 16 of the Catholic Bible Daily Reflections Podcast (Daily Reflection 16). Today we are discussing Genesis chapters 33-35 and reflecting on these events from a today perspective. We see Esau and Jacob finally meet, and their reunion went very differently than Jacob had thought it would. We see in Shechum the very terrible events involving Jacob’s daughter, Dinah, and Jacob directing the entire family to purify themselves and get rid of idols. They repent and God then renews his blessing over Jacob. Rachel dies in childbirth with Benjamin, and she is buried in Bethlehem. We now have the 12 tribes of Israel.
